As a Principal Software Engineer, you drive the architectural roadmap for our platform and set the tone for our technology investments. You impact both the ‘how’ and ‘what’ of the engineering vision, influencing your peers on tooling, coding standards, and codebase.

On any given day, you might...

• Design and build a horizontally scalable microservices to ingest, analyze, and understand documents
• Envision and create an information retrieval architecture combining document, graph, and entity search
• Represent Primer at a conference or event, or write a paper about a novel technique you’ve shipped to production
• Evaluate, adopt, and contribute back to open-source software to build out the Primer technology stack
• Help guide one of our your team members in solving a hard problem

What we'd like to see in your background...

• A demonstrated ability to drive a broad engineering vision and get your peers on board, combined with depth in at least one key Primer domain (AI, ML, NLP, Document Ingestion, Query Processing, Information Retrieval, Search)
• Deep, recent expertise in Python, GoLang, or Java (Python preferred)
• Experience leading multiple commercial software projects end-to-end in an agile environment on any major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc); we'll want to hear your stories of successful team efforts, as well as the strong attempts that fell short of the mark, and your role in helping the team to remedy the situation
• Experience with data ingestion and processing systems at scale - online, streaming, or batch
• Helping to create engineering teams, including recruiting, successful employee on-boarding processes, and mentorship methods to raise the team's effectiveness
• 8+ years of commercial software experience, with your more recent roles on cloud-based SaaS, or PaaS products

Bonus Points

• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS or PaaS applications
• Data-driven engineering; use metrics to make decisions and inform performance/cost tradeoffs
• Experience with search, graph, relational, and NoSQL database technologies
