Cardless is a fintech startup. Our mission is to make consumer credit more accessible, useful, and engaging, and we do that by partnering with brands to help them launch financial products.
We've begun with a focus on co-branded credit cards. We've launched cards with Manchester United , the Boston Celtics , Liverpool F.C. We're headquartered in San Francisco, but we're building a remote-friendly team across the continental US. We were founded in 2019, and we last raised a $40M Series B in 2021. Our investors include top VCs like Activant, Accomplice, and Greycroft; founders from successful startups like Plaid, SeatGeek, and FiveStars; and executives from major sports teams like the Boston Celtics and Phoenix Suns.
The Role
Our product & customer experience spans web & mobile. Customers apply for Cardless credit cards on the web (via our React + TypeScript web app ), then use them on mobile (via our iOS app and Android app ).
Our mobile app aims to be both useful & delightful (and secure), e.g. by integrating with Apple Pay, Google Pay, Face ID, and showing you a virtual card number you can use right away (no more waiting days for a physical card to arrive in the mail). We want to bring the same experience to the web, and take both web & mobile to new heights.
To help us do that more easily as one team , we're moving our mobile apps to React Native (similar to our peers at Coinbase & NerdWallet ). We're excited to standardize on TypeScript and share code, patterns, tools, and skills across our platforms. If we do this well, we'll achieve a cohesive codebase that lets our engineers fall into a "pit of success", helping them both move fast (e.g. through shared libraries, Storybook or similar, and analytics-driven experimentation) and move with high quality (e.g. through linting, unit tests, and error reporting).
We're seeking Product Engineers with diverse backgrounds & complementary skillsets who are passionate about building great user experiences and achieving real-world impact. You may be a generalist who's excited to work across web & mobile, or you may be a specialist who prefers to focus on one platform.
Either way, you'll write & review code, write & review design docs, collaborate across disciplines (e.g. with PM, design, compliance & partnerships), and work on a team to contribute features & fixes. You'll get support & mentorship from more experienced engineers, and if you do well & grow, you'll get opportunities to lead projects and mentor other engineers, too.
The Requirements

Everyone has unique strengths & weaknesses, and we hire for strength & potential, not lack of weakness.• Experience contributing meaningful features & fixes to a web and/or mobile app and iterating on it in production. This is more important to us than a specific # of years of experience, but we expect most engineers to need at least 2-4 years in the industry to gain this experience.• Experience working on a team and collaborating with others, e.g. to clarify requirements and review code & designs. A high-functioning, collaborative, and supportive environment is important to us, and you'll play an important role in maintaining that.• Broad, high-level understanding across engineering, product, and design (e.g. how apps work, APIs, UI & UX patterns, experimentation, etc.).• Some expertise in your technology platform (web or mobile, covering e.g. layout & style, reusable components, state management, etc.).• Passion for both your craft (building things right) and achieving real-world impact (building the right things for our business & customers).
Location
We're headquartered in San Francisco, CA, with a beautiful office in the Mission District (near Dolores Park). We welcome employees who want to work from this office; we offer additional benefits to those who do (see below), and relocation assistance to those who'd like to.
We are hiring remotely across the continental US for most roles. We work hard to create a first-class, remote-friendly environment, with an additional benefit for remote employees, too (see below).
We regularly bring our team together for offsites & trips, about every 2 months, both for fun and for work. We cover all travel & lodging in these cases.

Compensation
This role has an annual starting salary range of $135,000 - $170,000 + equity + benefits (see above). Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, and specific work location.
