About the role:

Cruise is seeking a Prototype Technician for the San Francisco autonomous vehicle hardware team. We are a dynamic and rapidly expanding team that is supporting hardware development in the autonomous vehicle field.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with engineering and technician teams to facilitate hardware development and prototype iteration
  • Create CAD for mechanical parts and assemblies with a focus on DFM/DFA, taking into account appearance, function, quality, and cost
  • Design, build, and set up equipment and test fixtures; prepare and conduct tests; operate and maintain equipment used for testing, for both engineering and AV use
  • Produce and maintain detailed documentation around team processes and for all test and maintenance procedures
  • Work with internal and external suppliers to support prototype manufacturing and build events
  • Deliver projects directly supporting R&D initiatives, pre-release product validation, and new product introduction
  • Perform other prototype, lab, or AV platform related duties as assigned

You should apply for this role if you have the following qualifications:

  • 4+ years technical experience in electro-mechanical, computer, automotive, marine electronics, robotics, or aerospace industries
  • Formal education in Engineering Technology or trade school major. BS, AS, technology trade certificate, or work experience equivalent
  • 3+ years experience working in CAD software (SolidWorks) 
  • Demonstrated ability to use general shop, automotive, and diagnostic tools
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing principles, including GD&T, assembly, and dimensional engineering principles
  • Strong knowledge of prototype and manufacturing processes 
  • Excellent project management and cooperative development skills, focus, attention to detail, and requires minimal guidance to complete tasks

Bonus Points:

  • Working knowledge of PDM/PLM systems, BOM release, and ECO’s
  • Basic programming in Python or C++
