Senior Director of Engineering, Financial Platform
About the role
Chime is looking for a senior engineering leader to help manage and guide our Financial Platform Engineering group, this includes our: core banking capabilities, card payment processing and System of Record. Our mission is to empower the development of a member-obsessed Chime experience by decoupling it from the complexity of operating the flow of funds through consistent abstractions and data. These are enabled by platform components your team will build and own, as well as through robust integrations with our financial services partners.
This job cannot be performed in the state of Colorado.
In this role, you can expect to
- Build and manage multiple engineering teams across multiple domains, provide technical leadership, set vision and long-term strategy for the engineering roadmap.
- Deliver highly scalable systems through growing the capabilities of the Financial Platform engineering group through hiring, coaching, nurturing, mentoring, and building a happy healthy culture.
- Partner closely with Engineering Product Management to produce a Platform as a Product with best in class developer experience, APIs and Data Products.
- Solve critical problems while being connected to the technology and architecture. Work with your technology leaders to make technology recommendations to the VP of Engineering and CTO.
- Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement. Establish a sense of urgency and direction, set expectations with team and individuals.
- Work closely with our engineering leaders to proactively identify bottlenecks in our existing software infrastructure and guide the team through a path forward to improve and scale it. Ensure that technical decisions support our quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and security goals.
- Contribute to overall engineering initiatives as a senior member of Chime’s engineering leadership team.
To thrive in this role, you have
- Experience as a software engineer and an effective people manager including experience managing managers and managers of managers.
- Interest in pushing the envelope to explore new technologies and architectures that can have a large return on investment.
- An appetite for learning and diving into the deepest levels of how things work.
- A desire to make a huge difference at a growing start-up.
- The ability to motivate a team through delivery on aggressive schedules and goals.
- Comfort guiding teams using our technology stack from high performance runtimes (GoLang), streaming data, polyglot persistence, all leveraging Cloud Infrastructure (AWS) and Cloud-Native technology.
- Strong operational excellence mindset (Availability, Quality, Performance, Scale) with data-driven approach to holding a high bar.
- Platform-oriented engineering leadership with experience handling highly available systems.
