Cruise is looking for a Senior Engineering Lab Technician to help us bring-up and test our next generation vehicles and sensors as well as contribute positively to our testing culture by developing sustainable and scalable test station processes and methods. In this position, you will work on a multidisciplinary team and work directly with various stakeholders in order to gather test station requirements to support robust and thorough testing on fast-paced timelines. You will need an aptitude to learn what your immediate responsibilities are as well as how they tie into broader team and company goals.

What you'll be doing:

  • Maintain various lab equipment’s calibration and vendor engagement for calibrations/warranty servicing
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry best practice techniques across a range of R&D lab equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, soldering, desoldering, harness building, operating a manual mill, lathe, horizontal/vertical drop saw, and basic machine shop hand tools 
  • Experience building up a test lab -- i.e., understanding lab power requirements, interfacing with facilities team(s), gathering ethernet requirements, and overseeing lab builds
  • Experience operating microscopes, oscilloscopes, power supplies, motorized stages, thermal chambers, thermocouple installation and data acquisition, spectrum analyzers, flow hoods, etc.
  • Observe all safety standards and maintain a secure, safe, clean and healthy work environment. Follow operating instructions, use protective equipment when required, and use equipment and materials properly
  • Produce and develop detailed documentation for test, maintenance, safety, and team processes
  • A self starter mentality. The ability to take direction and proactively seek out any missing information or details to accomplish a task.
  • Ability to read and interpret PCB schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to perform Incoming Quality Checks (IQC) on hardware to collect data on component function and performance
  • Proficient with JIRA and able to collect and present understandable test data and results by using google docs/sheets/slides and graphing software

What you must have:

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and network diagrams to understand how they apply to a physical setup
  • Strong organizational skills
  • You are proficient creating Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides to manage documents for cross-team collaboration
  • Experience bringing up, maintaining, and operating lab equipment such as microscopes, oscilloscopes, power supplies, motorized stages, thermal chambers, DAQ hardware, spectrum analyzers, and the like
  • Experience using Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems
  • Experience working in a machine shop environment using machine shop tools and equipment
  • Ability to thrive in a cooperative, rapidly changing team setting with aggressive goals and challenging timelines
  • Strong work ethic, quality workmanship, and team oriented
  • Current driver's license with a good standing driver record

Bonus Points! 

  • Experience working with optical equipment, tools, and fixtures
  • Experience using Python, JIRA, and/or Confluence
  • Experience aligning optics
  • Knowledge of or experience with performing sensor calibration
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle or advanced driver-assistance systems that utilize any of the following sensor types: lidar, radar, cameras, or ultrasonics
