Quantcast is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our The Common Tools and Services team (CTAS). You and your team will be responsible for the tools supporting software development, build, CD/CI, and orchestration at Quantcast. This extends from off-the-shelf build/development tools such as github, jenkins, sourcegraph, &c, to custom application and pipeline orchestration environments, large kubernetes installations, and monitoring/alerting integrations.

As the team’s manager, you’ll own the roadmap to:

  • Modernize, simplify, and standardize our build, test, and deployment toolchain
  • Make the right way the easy way for security, monitoring, compliance, and deployments for the services that power quantcast.com and schedule all of our computing pipelines.
  • Improve observability into incidents and drive company wide stability initiatives with the data

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work on several large projects with multiple dependencies across teams
  • Mentor and develop the members of your team from both a technical and soft skill perspective
  • Strengthen engineering process, principles, and culture within your team and across the organization by championing a culture of learning, continuous improvement, and blameless retrospection
  • Own the long term technical vision and roadmap 
  • Track record in partnering with recruiting to build engineering teams 
  • Make the right trade-off choices when dealing with functional complexity, conflicting priorities, and conflicting schedules
  • Represent the team and remove hurdles so that each one of the team members operates at the highest level of efficiency and productivity

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of engineering experience, and demonstrated experience mentoring and developing technically strong teams
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices, compliance, open-source technologies and frameworks 
  • Experience with effectively creating alignments between teams and operating well in ambiguity 
  • Experience driving organizational change (e.g. migrations between large systems, tool adoption, cost control, security, performance)
  • Ideal technical skills (definitely need some, don’t necessarily need all):
  • Experience running a developer tools team
  • Expertise in Kubernetes
  • Expertise in build and deployment tools
  • Expertise with developer productivity tools
  • Expertise with Ruby/Rails
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree (We recognize that knowledge and skills equivalent to those earned in a degree program can also be achieved via nontraditional paths, and welcomes applicants with nontraditional training.)

Recognizing the importance of flexible work environments, Quantcast has adopted a hybrid work model. The model gives employees the opportunity to work from home two days a week and work in the office for team collaboration for the remainder of the time.
