The Maneuver Planning Senior Engineering Manager is accountable for strategy and execution of the maneuver planning teams. Maneuver planning is responsible for consuming inputs from Prediction, Localization, Mapping, Routing, etc., and computing real-time maneuver decisions and high level trajectories. This role includes setting high level technical direction by working with Technical Product Managers to build project roadmaps, prioritize work and execute against those plans. This also includes building a world class engineering organization capable of scaling as the company grows; this includes mentoring and growing strong engineering managers.

What you'll be doing:
  • Lead and grow a team of 3+ robotics software engineering teams 
  • Work with your team, Technical Project Managers and external stakeholders to build, prioritize and execute against an engineering roadmap
  • Guide the team to create a technical direction and execution plan to solve ambiguous autonomous vehicle problems
  • Balance interrupt driven work against those long term plans - e.g. demo 
  • Create and uphold engineering processes as we scale 
  • Represent your team in cross-functional and executive meetings

What you must have:

  • Managed multiple teams and initiatives in a fast-paced engineering organization on the company critical path
  • Successfully grown software engineering teams by growing engineering managers and driving external leadership recruiting
  • A track record of shipping production quality software for complex products
  • Experience as an engineer delivering results within large-scale, robotics, or safety-critical project environments
  • Self motivation to proactively lead your team to deliver high quality and value software

  • Domain experience in path planning, optimization, control theory, graph theory, machine learning and the like 
  • Contributing production quality C++ software at scale 
  • Exposure to verifying and validating safety critical software and systems 
  • Experience developing autonomous vehicles
What you must have:
  • Remarkably organized and have a keen eye for even the most minute details 
  • A proven self-starter that has the ability to troubleshoot and resolve roadblocks as they occur
  • Adaptable-- able to shift gears at a moment's notice!
  • A genuine people-person, balancing the right amount of friendliness and professionalism 
  • Always striving to improve and iterate on best practices
  • An excellent written and verbal communicator 
  • Passionate about self-driving cars and their impact on the world!

Bonus Points!

  • 1+ years in an Administrative/Recruiting role
  • Familiarty with an ATS platform (i.e. Greenhouse, Lever)
  • Experience working with external recruiters and agencies
  • An established network of potential hires 
  • Experience organizing external events/managing projects at universities, conferences, in-house, etc.
