The Team
Tech Foundation team's mission is to enable GoGuardian engineers, from software engineers to data engineers to data scientists to deliver products at speed with high quality, where quality includes but is not limited to functionality, reliability, availability, security, privacy, etc. A Senior Engineering Manager will lead the Tech Foundation internal infrastructure team to help our engineers reach that mission.
The Role
As a Senior Engineering Manager on the Tech Foundation team, you will be a key member of the engineering leadership team by helping us scale people, technology, and processes. Not only will you be responsible for building highly innovative and compelling tech infrastructures to enable our product engineering and data scientist teams to deliver excellent product experiences across millions of students (and teachers), you'll closely collaborate with all engineering teams to advocate the best practices suitable to enable our engineers to deliver at speed with quality. Additionally, this person will drive conception to design to implementation of development infrastructures and machine learning infrastructures across multiple platforms and will develop ownership and accountability for organizational success and build a solid team culture. What You'll Do

• Active performance management and mentoring of individual engineers (including technical leads)
• Create and foster strong, respectful, inclusive, and empathetic team culture driven by truth, humility, brilliance, and determination, and set up the team (and members) for long-term success with clear expectations and goal setting
• Grow the team through both hiring qualified candidates to strengthen and complement the company and the team, as well as sponsoring/coaching/mentoring team members on how to achieve more by recognizing their strengths and working toward personal development goals
• Partner effectively with cross-functional teams to collaborate across business stakeholders to deliver impactful projects according to the company roadmap, which may include but is not limited to setting the roadmap and priorities, planning based on capacity, deliverables, timelines, etc
• Collaborate with Product Management and Program Management for work sequencing and prioritization.
• Lead architecture design and define technical guidelines and engineering best practices
• Actively track technical debt and sponsor its remediation through data-driven decisions
• Manage vendor relationships (and related priorities) in combination with executive leadership

Who You Are

• 10+ years in the tech industry or an adjacent industry; experience in a medium to large scale business shipping production SaaS
• 5+ years of leadership/management experience; have managed a product development team of 5-15 engineers
• Demonstrated success leading, recruiting, and managing engineering teams in a rapidly changing, iterative environment with diverse stakeholders (both internal and external).
• Experience hiring and managing a diverse, cross-functional staff of SWE, QA, and SRE folks; understands the specific function and needs of each group
• Experience with the entire product development lifecycle, agile processes, and sprint cadence
• Ability to evaluate new technologies and tools to implement engineering best practices
• Experiences/exposure with Machine Learning infrastructure development, e.g. data collection pipeline through API integration, experiment framework, etc.
• Significant exposure to or experience with: Javascript/Typescript and Angular/React application development, AWS or GCP cloud-based infrastructure, modern technical practices such as CI/CD, Automated testing, Infrastructure as Code, Secrets Management
• Working experience in the educational technology domain is a huge bonus point
