We’re looking for a senior full-stack engineer to join our team in San Francisco or Austin. Ideal applicants will have experience using JavaScript to develop interactive web applications with a focus on data analytics. This senior position in the Data Science Tools team will play a defining role in building and maintaining the tools that empower Real Chemistry’s team of analysts and data scientists to deliver industry-defining work to some of the biggest brands in the world.

Our Data Science Tools team spans our offices in Austin and San Francisco. This full-stack team uses Java, JavaScript, and Python to deliver AOS, Real Chemistry’s cloud-native internal data platform, and its ecosystem of tools to internal users. This position is a unique opportunity to build and shape the software team at an industry-leading firm while learning the in-demand field of analytics and data science from some of the best practitioners in the industry.

Job responsibilities

  • Work with a small team to develop our suite of data analysis and exploration applications

  • Partner with data scientists and analysts to identify new and evolving client-driven use cases

  • Collaborate with UX Researchers and Visual Designers to translate their work into code

  • Work with infrastructure engineers to deploy new features into production using CI/CD

  • Co-own the software development process – including agile processes, coding standards, code metrics, build standards, and so on – to nurture the growing development team

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the team, including code reviews, build health management, release communications, and so on

  • Stay abreast of new trends and best practices in technology and put them to work at W2O

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders across the business at all levels of the company to drive adoption of new tools and identify new opportunities for products.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study, or equivalent experience

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a software developer

  • Experience designing data intensive web application backends

  • Experience using ReactJS to deliver analytical user experiences around RESTful web services

  • Working knowledge of frontend build and test tooling including Webpack and Jest

  • Familiarity deploying and hosting software solutions on cloud-based infrastructure

  • Solid grasp of the principles, patterns, and practice of software design

  • Strong communication skills with internal users, business owners, and team members

  • Ability to thrive on a distributed team with remote and near-shore engineers

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or cloud certifications, especially AWS

  • Experience building RESTful web services with NodeJS

  • Experience with Python’s data science and data engineering ecosystems

  • Advanced understanding of the JavaScript programming language and extended ecosystem

  • A keen eye for the visual display of quantitative information

  • Experience leveraging caching patterns and CDNs for performant content delivery

  • Working knowledge of the AWS platform
