Senior Full Stack Software Engineer, Bitbucket Cloud (Remote - U.S.)
Atlassian can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity, assuming candidates have eligible working rights and a sufficient timezone overlap with their team. As our offices re-open, Atlassians can choose to work remotely or return to an office, unless it’s necessary for the role to be performed in the office. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
Bitbucket Cloud is looking to add a Senior Software Engineer to its Core Experience team to help with leading and growing our engineering team and product. Development on Bitbucket is collaborative and thoughtful, and we’ve got a wide array of challenging but rewarding problems to solve.
Bitbucket’s Core Experience team owns all of the primary website user workflows and working on this team will allow you to help shape how millions of developers collaborate, manage, and ship their code. We believe in being opinionated about the development process while allowing users to work in the way that’s best for them, and our design, product, and engineering teams work in concert to understand our users in order to deliver key pieces of functionality that drive teams towards success.
As a developer on Bitbucket, you’ll get to work on a set of systems and services solving the challenges unique to distributed version control and team collaboration. We’re a full-stack development team that frequently collaborates with Atlassian’s platform engineering teams as well as the teams across Bitbucket to solve problems. You’ll have the opportunity to not only shape the Core Experience team but also to be a leader with Bitbucket and Atlassian.
We believe in setting aside time to innovate as well as time to learn and grow your knowledge and skillset. You can’t innovate effectively if you don’t understand the system you’re innovating and technologies available, and so we believe in making investments in learning as well as teaching in order to be a highly effective engineering organization.
What you will do:
- Lead technical efforts through all phases of the software development process — from early design phases through to customers and support
- Collaborate cross-functionally and cross-product to make major improvements to our platform
- Help shape our engineering policies through a broad approach to engineering quality (consistent and thoughtful patterns, improved observability, unit and integration testing, etc.)
- Develop for developers through public APIs and services that allow for extensibility
- Participate in innovation time to build features for our customers and tools for our engineering teams
- Work on a large but coherent set of technologies:
- Frontend: React/Redux, Typescript, Webpack, Babel, Eslint or other frontend tooling, Cross-browser testing/debugging, building scalable/performant SPAs, testing frameworks(ex: Jest, Cypress), and more.
- Backend: Django/Python, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, Memcached, Micros (Atlassian’s thin implementation layer above AWS), and more
On your first day, we'll expect you to have:
- 5+ years experience in software development
- Expertise in at least one engineering paradigm (backend or frontend) with a proven track record of effective development
- Willingness to learn and be able to support the full engineering stack on a complex system
- Experience growing the abilities and skill sets of other engineers
- Demonstrated improvement of engineering practices or policies in a prior role
- Ability to lead complex technical efforts requiring collaboration from a diverse set of key stakeholders
