Maps are no longer static. Our maps represent the ever-evolving world, accessing, aggregating, and adapting anonymous data from millions of sensors and phones in real-time. Mapbox has the exciting opportunity to power devices and products across the next frontier in location-based data, such as Internet of Things and AR/VR.

Whether you’re watching the delivery of your grocery order on Instacart, looking at a gym on ClassPass, sending your snaps on Snap, tracking your personal best on Strava, monitoring your gas budget on Metromile, or checking today’s forecast on The Weather Channel, Mapbox is the location and maps within those apps. We’re changing how people move by live-mapping the world. We are the developer platform for location.

What We Do

The Mobile Telemetry SDK team builds the open source library that powers the collection of anonymous data about the map and device location to continuously update and improve your map experience. Customers of our SDK include apps on Android, iOS, React Native, and Unity. We work with devices of all shapes and forms, from the latest flagship phone to tablets, laptops, smartwatches, and embedded boards. Our developers build apps, games and navigation experiences that top the App Store and Play Store rankings, and we are constantly working together to help them build what’s next.

  • Make careful design decisions to enable efficient code with low power usage and high performance for demanding applications which render complex map data, process high resolution vision data and provide real time turn by turn navigation
  • Collaborate closely with other teams across Mapbox to understand requirements, craft expressive and easy to use APIs for developers to enable delightful user experiences.
  • Carefully measure and manage quality and performance by leveraging build and test automation tools; develop test strategies and plans to ensure high reliability
  • Teach, support and mentor junior engineers with code and design reviews, share your experiences and interests in demos and internal presentations.

  • Prior experience and exposure to lower level system API’s such as: Networking (Wifi, Bluetooth, BLE, RFID etc), Location (Maps, GPS, Telemetry, GIS) or Motion (IMU, Accelerometer, Gyro etc)
  • Knowledge of software design patterns & systems architecture with the ability to take requirements and own the end to end implementation with a focus on performance, reliability and long term support
  • Understands the value of reliable and predictable automation systems used to measure quality, performance and make repeatable build tasks “push button” easy
  • Experience building, publishing and supporting SDKs, particularly in an OpenSource environment, in any language is a plus
