Senior Manager, IT Engineering

ROLE OVERVIEW
Benchling is looking for an experienced IT Engineering Leader to join our IT organization. Reporting to the Head of IT & Workplace, you will lead and grow our Engineering function as we scale globally. You will lead and support our Identity & Applications, Client Platform, Networking, Infrastructure, and Collaboration functions and drive the effectiveness and efficiency of our execution, delivery, and change management processes. This is both a strategic and hands-on role, requiring you to work across the organization to improve the way we operate.
You will drive the standardization of our operational processes, identify opportunities to make our teams more effective, and implement new processes as we grow and scale. You will help create our IT engineering roadmap, own execution, and improvement of our tools, and oversee the internal change management required to implement. You will work closely with IT leadership to define key KPIs and implement the reporting and analytics we need to effectively track user adoption and impact.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON
- Manage and grow a world-class IT Engineering team that drives technical execution through automation to deliver an exceptional end-user experience
- Establish a culture of excellence, trust, and ownership within the Engineering team that aligns with Benchling’s leadership principles
- Implement and operationalize controls necessary for security, SOX, and internal policies
- Manage a diverse portfolio of strategic IT Engineering technical projects and ongoing “keep the lights on” work
- Partner with IT leadership to define and document our service delivery processes and standards
- Identify opportunities for automation and implement integrated processes that drive operational excellence
- Collaborate with our Operations, Business Systems, Security, Compliance, and Workplace partners on cross-functional initiatives including new office builds and operational maturity efforts
- Own relationships with external vendors, including SLAs, licensing, and contracts
- Function as an escalation point for issues concerning all core IT applications and systems and own communication to key stakeholders
ABOUT YOU
- BA/BS degree in Management, Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent degree/experience in related field
- 5+ years in IT Engineering or Technical Operations with 3+ years management experience, preferably at a fast-paced high-growth company
- Excellent written and verbal communication across a broad audience; demonstrates an ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Strong systems analysis and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and quality control; ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations
- Advanced proficiency and/or experience managing an IT Engineering team owning a modern stack of systems and applications like Okta, Google Workspace, AWS, Jamf, Meraki, Slack, Zoom, Github, Splunk, etc.
