Staff Ruby Engineer

Chime is looking for engineers who have a passion and vision for what a Ruby ecosystem could be. You will be providing leadership as one of the founding members of the team, and your work will impact all engineers at Chime and eventually engineers outside of Chime.
As a staff engineer you will be responsible for leadership, mentorship, and be hands on getting it done. Chime is a collaborative environment where you will need to lead through influence, listen to your customers, and empathize with what they need in their roles.
This job cannot be performed in the state of Colorado.
In this role, you can expect to
- Work across Chime and the industry to develop and articulate a vision of our Ruby ecosystem. And more importantly, how engineers will spend their time joyously in this ecosystem
- Lead a community of practice (Guild) around how our Ruby ecosystem is architected, developed, tested, deployed, and released. Foster the communities creativity, innovation, and learning.
- Collaborate effectively with other technology teams and architects to solve complex problems spanning their respective areas
- Mentor, document, and share knowledge, growing the technical capability of the Engineering organization
- Make the organization more effective through smart & pragmatic application of useful code tools & patterns.
- Work closely with our engineering leaders to identify bottlenecks in our existing software infrastructure and guide the team through a path forward to improve and scale it. Ensure that technical decisions support our quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and security goals.

- Knowledge and ability to navigate all aspects of Ruby on Rails ecosystems
- Internal motivation and passion for Ruby and Engineering, ability to initiate and drive your roadmap
- Proven track record of improving engineering culture across multiple teams
- Successfully rolled out company wide programs and initiatives contributing to better quality and delivery practices
- Demonstrated ability to be a team player as well as a top level independent performer
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to adjust to meet the audience needs
- Actively participated and contributed to the Ruby community
- Been a speaker in an industry recognized conference / event
- Ability to navigate ambiguous requirements through communication and iteration, creating clarity for yourself and those around you
- Ability to work well with others, learn on the job, and thrive in a dynamic work environment
