Position Summary 

As a Senior Engineer on one of our feature teams, you will be an integral part of the group that enables Expanse’s customers to engage with their data through our APIs and UI. You will build out backend systems, select technology stacks, collaborate with other engineers, and own end-to-end delivery of customer-facing API and UI features. You will draw upon your experience to rapidly investigate and prototype new functionality built upon cutting-edge technology, then switch to implementation mode to deliver products built upon your research. You will guide and mentor your team in enterprise software development, architecture development, and technology evaluation. You will represent your team in architecture roadmap planning sessions, interfacing regularly with other staff engineers, architects, and product managers.

Your expertise will help define and secure the perimeters of the world's most important organizations. This position can be based in our offices in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and optimize Kubernetes-hosted web applications for maximum speed and scale, using a number of backend storage technologies, including Postgres, Elasticsearch, and S3
• Ensure your team delivers high output and mentor other engineers.
• Continuously seek ways to make a substantial impact on your team and the broader engineering organization.
• Help drive projects from requirements to complete design and implementation.
• Anticipate challenges of architecting at scale, align architecture vision with strategic initiatives.

About You

• 4+ years of experience as a professional software engineer building customer-facing software for a SaaS business
• Experience in providing technical leadership of teams building enterprise features on a multi-tenant SaaS platform at scale (examples: role-based access, SAML integrations, feature flag frameworks)
• Excited to dig in, prototype, build, test, and see projects through to production; results driven, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to balance shipping new products and features with addressing technical debt and investments in architecture and infrastructure
• Comfortable supporting your work in production
• Thorough understanding of design patterns
• Strong familiarity with Python or Java
• Solid understanding of various methods and tradeoffs for handling concurrency
• Strong familiarity databases, data modeling, profiling, and performance optimization
• Experienced and opinionated about API design and distributed backend systems
• Knowledge of AWS or GCP is a strong plus
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Willing and able to work in San Francisco, CA
