Senior Software Engineer - Robotics/Perception
We’re Cruise, the self-driving ride-hailing service.
We are building the world’s most advanced, all-electric, self-driving cars to safely connect people to the places, things, and experiences they care about. We believe self-driving cars will help save lives, reimagine cities, redefine time in transit, and restore freedom of movement for many.
At Cruise, our engineers have opportunities to grow and develop while learning from leaders at the cutting-edge of their fields. With a culture of internal mobility, there's opportunity to thrive in a variety of disciplines. This is a place for dreamers and doers to succeed.
If you are looking to solve one of today’s most complex engineering challenges, see the results of your work in hundreds of self-driving cars, and make a positive impact in the world starting in our cities, join us.
About the role:
In this role, you will be working on all robotics aspects of our Perception stack. This versatile role requires a broad skill set and extensive collaboration with various teams within Cruise. You will collaborate with various specialists to get algorithms and ML models deployed and integrated into the stack, with an eye on optimization and simplification of these procedures. You will collaborate on runtime optimization and architect highly performant perception pipelines.
You will work with hardware teams to guide compute requirements, sensor selection and sensor suite architecture in support of the perception stack, both for current and future vehicle generations. You will work on integration of the sensor data into the stack, by designing highly efficient preprocessing pipelines that feed into our algorithms. You will gather and organize requirements for coordinating our collaboration with hardware and sensor teams.
You will apply a systems-level, data-driven approach to inform analysis and decision making. You will spot and collaboratively close gaps in tooling and data introspection to accelerate engineer velocity within Perception.
You should apply for this role if you have the following qualifications:
- BS, MS, or higher degree, in CS/CE/EE, or equivalent in industry experience
- Strong programming skills in modern C++
- Passionate about self driving car technology and its impact on the world
- (bonus) PhD in computer science
- (bonus) Experience with ROS, OpenCV, or PCL
- (bonus) Experience in deploying perception algorithms into real world environments
We seek expertise in at least one of these two areas for this role:
Integration & Optimization
- Strong understanding of runtime optimization and software development for runtime-critical systems on Linux
- (bonus) Experience with profiling CPU and/or GPU software
- (bonus) Experience with process scheduling and resource allocation.
- (bonus) Experience with CUDA
- (bonus) Experience with ML and ML frameworks such as Tensorflow, Caffe, and PyTorch
Sensors & Hardware
- Experience working with various sensor technologies, including Lidar, Radar, and Camera
- (bonus) Experience working with simulated sensor data
