Senior Software Engineer, Simulation Infrastructure
We’re Cruise, the self-driving ride-hailing service.
We are building the world’s most advanced self-driving vehicles to safely connect people to the places, things, and experiences they care about. We believe self-driving vehicles will help save lives, reshape cities, give back time in transit, and restore freedom of movement for many.
At Cruise, our engineers have opportunities to grow and develop while learning from leaders at the cutting-edge of their fields. With a culture of internal mobility, there's opportunity to thrive in a variety of disciplines. This is a place for dreamers and doers to succeed.
If you are looking to solve one of today’s most complex engineering challenges, see the results of your work in hundreds of self-driving cars, and make a positive impact in the world starting in our cities, join us.
Cruise’s Simulation Infrastructure team enables autonomous vehicle engineers to use simulation to accelerate the development of autonomous vehicles. As a senior software engineer on this team, you will build distributed systems to run advanced simulations at scale and efficiently run pipelines that inform engineers within minutes about the aggregate results of vast amounts of simulations. Check out this recent video where our Director of Engineering talks about the evolution of how we use the Google compute platform to run this vital process at scale.
What you'll be doing:
- Design and implement scalable distributed systems to support the complex engineering challenges faced at Cruise
- Build systems capable of simulating millions of miles of driving every day, and reporting the results and metrics obtained from these in a concise and easy to understand way
- Drive efficiency, utilization, and scheduling decisions for workloads that span over hundreds of thousands of CPU cores and GPU accelerators
- Create better ways to measure and understand the results of these simulations
- Drive software engineering best practices both within your team and across the company, and create tooling which encourages these
- Ship improvements to AV development toolchain which have a measurable and direct impact on our core company metrics
What you must have:
- 5+ years experience building large, scalable production software systems
- Experience with cloud computing abstractions
- Experience working with relational and non-relational databases
- Attention to detail and a passion for quality
- Passionate about self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world
Bonus Points!
- Expertise with Golang
- Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes, especially for running GPU workloads
- Experience with core Google Cloud Platform technologies
- Experience writing modern production C++ applications
