We are a San Francisco based team building self-driving semi trucks. We have raised $117MM in total and are backed by Tiger Global Management ($70MM Series C) and Sequoia Capital ($30MM Series B). We move freight daily between LA and Phoenix using our purpose built transfer hubs. This is an incredibly exciting time for autonomous driving and our team is looking to grow.

As a camera sensor systems engineer, you will be responsible for the identification, evaluation and integration of camera sensors for Embark's self driving technology. You will work directly with the Perception software team, and mechanical engineers to identify the field of view, image quality requirements, evaluating, tuning, and integration of camera modules with the compute system. This role will require working with third party image sensor, ISP and module vendors to deliver production quality camera modules for Embark's self driving trucks.

Responsibilities:

  • Define requirements specifications for camera sensors system including field of view, optics, image sensor, image quality, electrical and mechanical integration
  • 3D modeling of the camera field of views for the truck and design a 360 degree camera system
  • Research and identify third party sensor, ISP and module vendors
  • Collaborate with the Perception team and own the image acquisition pipeline including camera triggers, physical interface, ISP, post processing, system latency
  • Tuning the image sensor and ISP parameters to meet image quality requirements
  • Research and develop architectures that will include dedicated post processing hardware systems for integrating cameras with Embark’s self driving system
  • Establish QA methodologies and processes for testing image quality of camera modules in a lab environment
  • Design with a focus on scalability, manufacturability, and functional safety
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure functional requirements and hardware designs meet the needs of all the teams within the organization

Your Experience Might Include:

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or similar degree
  • 2+ years of experience in CMOS sensors bringup, tuning and debug
  • Experience in debugging of camera module components (optics, image sensor, ISP, interfaces like GMSL, FPDLink, GigE)
  • Strong knowledge of image processing pipelines; auto exposure, white balancing, tone mapping etc..
  • Knowledge of Linux, real-time systems, scripts, and software version control 
  • Knowledge of Image quality evaluation in Matlab is a plus
