About the team

Our team helps customers proactively prevent payment fraud. Commerce and financial transactions are increasingly moving online. While the internet has enabled easier and instantaneous payments, it has also introduced a layer of anonymity between the transacting parties. To fully leverage the power of online commerce, there is a necessary requirement: there must be mutual trust between parties. Without trust, commerce cannot happen. 

By providing a clear, accurate assessment of risk at multiple points of the end-user journey, we enable merchants to eliminate fraud losses, and create adaptive, frictionless experiences for low risk payments. We believe that machine learning is THE way to empower internet-scale businesses to prevent payment fraud. Making our machine learning products simple and easy to use for customers is key to our success.

What you’ll do

• Work closely with other engineers, product managers, and data scientists to build the backend of software products and machine learning systems critical to the success of our businesses and of our users across the web.

• Work on offline data pipelines and online machine learning implementations at scale - thousands of models derived from many terabytes of data

• Implement scalable, low-latency, and easily maintainable production systems

• Collaborate with other teams to build new features and functionality for our customers

• Generate, design, and productionize ideas to improve our products

What would make you a strong fit

We move quickly at Sift and deploy code many times per day. We iterate rapidly, but we also take the time to carefully think through the edge-cases of our products and ensure that they work well. It takes a great engineer to fit into this world. We set the bar high for our team, and we expect that many of the below apply to you:

• Experience building systems using Java, Python, or other languages

• Proficiency with object-oriented programming

• Strong software engineering fundamentals

• Strong communication & collaboration skills, and a belief that team output is more important than individual output

Bonus points

• Experience working with large datasets using Spark, MapReduce, or similar technologies

• Experience with distributed systems

• Experience working with data on HDFS, BigTable, HBase or other large-scale datastores

• Knowledge of operating and modifying cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or other

• Familiarity with machine learning or data science concepts
