About the Team

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented technical individual to join us as a senior secure applications engineer for the Secure Apps team, a group responsible for building and maintaining services which handle sensitive user data and financial information. The Secure Apps team primarily focuses on payments and subscriptions features, and must go through regular training on the latest secure development practices in order to ensure continued compliance with PCI-DSS and other standards.

Location: San Francisco

Our headquarters is located in downtown San Francisco, where our group of cross-functional experts assemble to create experiences for Crunchyroll and VRV’s passionate communities.

About You

The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, has worked in software development, has experience owning development of application components, and is capable of assisting in defining the implementation details for projects within his or her realm. This individual will be working with secure services, so an interest in application security is a must.

  • Bachelors in Computer Science or Engineering
  • 2+ years as a software development engineer
  • Experience with Golang
  • 1+ years of experience with secure development practices
  • Experience with scrum process
  • Experience with issue tracking software
  • Sensitivity toward handling and exposure of sensitive data

Pluses

  • You have experience working with microservice architecture
  • You know the OWASP Top 10

A Day in the Life of a Senior Secure Apps Engineer

On any given day, you may find yourself doing the following:

  • Working with your team to add, extend or debug payments and subscriptions features serving millions of users internationally
  • Fleshing out the technical details of how you’d approach implementing user stories, helping to break out tickets into subtasks where you feel is reasonable
  • Brainstorming with your lead, engineering manager and/or the team’s product owner to turn large, deeply technical tasks into smaller tractable deliverables
  • Review your work with your team’s product owner and with QA to verify and validate your contributions
  • Review the pull requests of other team members, contributing considerations and domain expertise where possible, and paying extra attention to potential software vulnerabilities being inadvertently introduced
  • Rarely, responding to an incident affecting one of our payments or subscriptions services in production, helping others diagnose what went wrong and following up with long-term solutions
  • In addition, although less frequently, you may find yourself acting as the tech lead for a project if it primarily concerns your area of expertise.
