About the Role: 

Wing is looking for a software engineering lead to join our Simulation team based in Palo Alto, CA. Simulation is a core technology for Wing - it enables testing of systems in both scenarios and at scales impossible in real world flight testing. Simulation is also central to Wing’s development workflow, where our tools provide rapid feedback for R&D. Additionally, through continuous verification, simulation is critical for ensuring the safety of our fleet of autonomous aircraft.

The Simulation team’s work spans vehicle physics and sensor modeling, synthetic 3D image generation, large scale simulation frameworks, vehicle performance monitoring and avionics hardware testing. In addition we build user facing tools to allow efficient configuration of simulations and analysis of results. This all hinges on high quality software design and implementation.

As a software lead on the Simulation team, you’ll drive the architecture, design and implementation of core simulation software for Wing’s full stack end-to-end system. Your work will be a key part of the development and validation of new technology as Wing launches innovative airspace and delivery products to the public. We’re looking for highly skilled software engineers but previous experience in simulation is not a requirement. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience leading the design of major production software components, and the ability to deliver results as part of a dynamic, cross-functional team.

What You’ll Do: 

• Work with teams across Wing to define requirements for new simulation tools and environments
• Own and lead software projects critical to Wing’s technical and commercial success
• Design and develop reliable and scalable infrastructure supporting automated evaluation of Wing’s end-to-end software and hardware at scale
• Build tools and systems to aid analysis, interpretation and visualization of simulation results
• Actively mentor junior engineers through code and design reviews and close collaboration

What You’ll Need: 

• 5+ years professional experience designing and developing software
• Demonstrated experience leading teams solving complex problems
• Enthusiasm for mentorship and software development best practices
• A technical degree or equivalent practical experience
• Proficiency in general purpose programming languages (e.g. C++, Python)
• Interdisciplinary interests since you'll work closely with software and hardware teams across the company

Bonus (any of): 

• Passion for aviation and developing new technologies
• Front end experience, in particular Angular/TypeScript
• Skills in data analysis, statistics, optimization or numerical methods
• Experience in engineering disciplines beyond software
• Knowledge of Google production technologies
• Experience with software quality assurance, in particular verification and validation testing
