HOW YOU’LL CREATE A BETTER WORLD FOR PETS 

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (Sr SDET), you will become an expert in Whistle’s software and acquire a deep understanding of the technology driving the mobile app. In addition, you will collaborate with our software, hardware and client experience teams to ensure that the product is aligned with our customers’ needs and meets Whistle’s high quality of standards. To be successful in this role you must be passionate about QA, love to learn, be technical, and like working in an Agile environment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Understanding the flow of code and interacting with the different elements of our stack
  • Setting up, maintaining, and performing test automation frameworks 
  • Investigating customer related problems as they arise 
  • Monitoring SW logging using third-party services such as New Relic, PagerDuty, and Sentry 
  • Managing the final quality of the production release 
  • Identifying software bugs or potential areas of instability 
  • Collaborating with other Software Engineers in our 24/7 on-call rotation for Whistle’s critical systems 
  • Participating in incident response and post-mortems, helping to perform root cause analysis and resulting action items 
  • Supporting software teams in their testing needs and guide them in best practices
  • Working with the team on capacity planning and optimizations to Whistle’s infrastructure footprint 
  • Being a strong quality advocate, collaborating closely with software engineers, designers, and product managers to release innovative high-quality products 
  • Working with software engineers to analyze existing automation test suite and identify gaps in test automation coverage 
  • Creating and executing automation tests for web-based applications and REST APIs as well as maintain existing tests and tools
  • Implementing high-quality, fault-tolerant, reusable, and maintainable automation tools and test frameworks
  • Managing test environments and test datasets used for test automation
  • Working with DevOps team to ensure automated testing is part of the CI pipeline
  • Able to perform exploratory testing on feature branches and update test cases as features are being developed

THE SKILLS YOU NEED TO KNOCK IT OUT OF THE DOG PARK: 

  • 5+ years professional experience as a SDET designing, implementing, and delivering QA automation frameworks
  • Experience working with large scale distributed systems
  • Fluent knowledge of software design and enterprise integration patterns as well as object oriented and functional programming paradigms
  • Experience across various languages such as Ruby, JavaScript and Python 
  • Ability to work independently solving complex issues and leading large size projects and releases
  • Exceptional debugging skills and ability to identify, debug, document, and fix software defects
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD DevOps practices, GitHub, containers/orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Experience with relational or document oriented database engines
  • A passion for testing, development and design 
  • Excellent verbal and written skills 
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems with practical, maintainable, and scalable solutions 
  • Performance and security testing experience is a plus
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • IoT and consumer electronics experience is a plus
