Software Engineer in Test
About Cisco Meraki
Cisco Meraki, the industry leader in cloud-managed IT, creates the simplest, most powerful solutions helping everyone from small businesses to global enterprises save time and money.
Founded in 2006, Meraki was born out of a desire to simplify an industry that had become increasingly inflexible and complex, leaving many behind. Meraki technology, managed from an intuitive, feature-rich interface, enables organizations to rapidly roll out digital initiatives, delivering real business value.
Today, Meraki has over two million active networks and over 6.8 million devices online around the world.
About the team
The Backend Group (Or ‘Exploding Whales’ as known internally) is a body of several teams, that is responsible for providing resilient, scalable, and highly performant systems that process large volumes of data (10+ billion transactions/day), giving our customers actionable insights for managing their network in real-time. This group is also responsible for the underlying data platform, and communication channels that make housing this vast data volume seamless.
We are a fully cross functional team, where every engineer is expected to own the full lifecycle of their service: to ask questions of users/product managers, design the product, build it, test it, incorporate feedback, ship it, and maintain it over time.
Though we expect product ownership, you’ll never have to do it alone. We're extremely collaborative, agile and helpful to one another, and we strive to ensure that no one team member is ever stuck as the only knowledge holder on a given piece of code.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an engineer that strives to fully automate testing. As our product features grow quickly, the automation infrastructure will be key to our ability to ship releases quickly.
As a Software Engineer in Test, you will continuously look for ways to improve software quality and development efficiency through tools, automation, and smart testing. For the first few months you will help the team in automating e2e test cases for the current feature set. Once we are caught up, you will transition into a software engineering role where you will be involved in the entire cycle of product development.
You are an ideal candidate if you:
- You design test solutions and implement frameworks that aid automation adoption by the engineering teams.
- You write reusable, high quality, and extensible code to verify features, micro services, APIs, and other backend systems.
- You create comprehensive and well-structured test cases.
- You perform unit, integration, and functional testing.
- You provide leadership with respect to test automation best practices.
- You drive continuous improvement in test coverage and test effectiveness.
- Knowledgeable with Continuous Integration & Delivery principles with an eye for automation.
We encourage you to drop us a line even if you don’t have all the points above. That's a lot of different areas of responsibility! We will help you pick them up because we believe that great engineers come from diverse backgrounds.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience or a desire to lead technical decisions and design discussions.
- Experience or willing to work in an agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, etc.).
- Personal projects or contributions to open-source projects.
