At Gusto, we serve over 100,000 small business customers with our Payroll, Benefits, and HR software suite, which allows them to move faster and gives them peace of mind about running their business and taking care of their team. Our Product Engineering teams build this suite of software, each focused on a different slice of the pie: Payroll, Benefits, and HR.

We’re looking for a strong, motivated, and creative product engineering leader to lead part of the Engineering team. As a leader on this team, you’ll be given full autonomy over everything in your domain as you scale what this team means at Gusto. You’ll be responsible for driving the product roadmap that will fuel the growth of Gusto’s payroll offerings across multiple dimensions, while recruiting and scaling a world-class team.

Here’s what you'll do:

• Empower engineering for one of Gusto’s critical new customer segments vertical: recruit, hire, and grow a team of world-class engineers and engineering managers.
• Deeply partner and be a strategic thought partner to product management and design to develop and refine Gusto’s multi-year vision and product roadmap.
• Lead the engineering team in executing on the product roadmap while advocating for and ensuring the long-term health and maintainability of the codebase.
• Understand customer pain points, come up with solutions, and then prototype, iterate, and launch frequently.
• Help scale acquisition, satisfaction and retention in a new customer segment.
• Bring out the best in your team by enabling them to do the best work of their lives.

Here's what we're looking for:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with considerable full-stack experience.
• 5+ years of engineering management experience.
• 3+ years of management experience hiring and developing managers.
• Experience driving strategy and execution across multiple teams building customer facing products towards business goals.
• Familiarity with Gusto’s technical stack (Ruby on Rails, React.js, PostgreSQL) is a plus.
