Who You Are:

A leader of innovation and engineering management but a developer at heart who is excited about the on-line education domain. To thrive in this role you will have managed engineering teams and have solid knowledge of web/mobile architecture. You feel passionately about developing product experiences. 

What You Will Do:

Business growth is the lifeblood of any startup. At MasterClass we are expanding our business opportunity by building a brand new product for the B2B/Enterprise vertical. This is a greenfield opportunity and as the leader of the B2B engineering organization, you will shape the foundational vision of this product, build the engineering team, and own the technology roadmap to achieve the product vision. The responsibility for this organization will include building a product that serves both SMBs, large enterprises, as well as Sales & Partnership opportunities. You will work hand in hand with Product, Data, Design, and Marketing teams to develop strategic roadmaps. You will be build a diverse team of engineers, and own technical delivery of the initiatives. You will play a key role in career development, coaching of the engineers on your team, and will be responsible for growing a small team into a larger organization. In this role, you will showcase your strong technical skills coupled with strong leadership, and planning abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering team to achieve excellence in execution and timely delivery of the projects at high technical quality levels
  • Partner with Product, Design, Data, and Marketing teams to define the strategic vision and roadmaps for the Growth and B2B organizations
  • Be ready to get into hands-on coding / code- reviews when needed
  • Build and grow diverse teams of engineers and engineering managers with strong culture
  • Effectively communicate team’s work to leadership and executives regularly
  • Make sound first-principle decisions around team resourcing, composition, and evolve the team according to the needs and team dynamics
  • Provide feedback, career guidance, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members and instill a strong sense of ownership and impact
  • Manage globally distributed engineering team members
  • Dive deep into technical architecture discussions with the leads; Drive technical innovation and be a thought partner for the team to influence the technology roadmap decisions

About You:

  • 8+ years of technical experience working in software development
  • 3+ years in technology leadership roles
  • Experience working on full stack systems with user facing products in agile environments
  • Passionate about technology and great command over system architecture as well as hands on development
  • Proven track record in managing high performing teams and growing engineers
  • Proven track record of forming effective partnerships with product managers, design, analytics, teams to improve cross-functional processes
  • Possess expertise and insight to raise the bar and help to continuously improve the technology stack
  • Passionate about building product experiences from idea to delivery
  • Cares deeply about quality
  • Thinks ahead and builds for the future
