Job Description
As a Sr. Staff Performance Engineer / Architect, you will be a key member of the ServiceNow's Platform Performance Engineering team driving improvements in performance, scalability and reliability of our platform, products and services. You will work within our agile software development process and will certify products for release readiness for performance, scalability and reliability and will carry out performance benchmarking for our products & services at global scale. The ideal candidate for this position will have strong background in performance benchmarking & engineering in large scale enterprise software platforms and applications. The candidate should have hands-on experience in architecting and driving complex performance engineering projects that measure the characteristics of systems running under dynamic, real-world workloads.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Provide technical leadership & drive large scale Performance benchmarking projects across organization.
- Develop Performance engineering processes & practices
- Provide technical direction on performance troubleshooting , monitoring, profiling & deployment architecture
- Drive technical design discussions with engineering & tools development teams / architects
- Design / Architect Performance testing tools / stubs
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in Performance Engineering & Benchmarking and/or Tools Development teams for the Enterprise
- 10+ years of experience testing large scale web-based distributed applications
- BS/MS Degree in Computer Science with solid experience developing and deploying mission critical software
- Excellent communication, problem solving, conflict management, time management and interpersonal skills with an aptitude and passion for learning new technologies
- Experience in working with & influencing technological decisions at senior organizational & technical leaders.
- A good team player with solid attention to detail, and the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
- Expert level knowledge in at least 2 of the below areas:
- Database (MySQL / Oracle / PostgreSQL) performance engineering (Tuning, Scaling, Deployment Architecture, Query Analysis)
- Java & Java script (JVM tuning, GC, heap and thread dump analysis)
- OS (Performance Monitoring, troubleshooting & configuration)
- Deployment architecture (Network , Storage, Server deployment & performance considerations)
- System design & Architecture
- Experience with concurrency, multithreading, and the deployment of distributed system architectures
- Background with Performance monitoring tools (e.g. App Dynamics, Jenkins, Splunk, New Relic)
- Solid background with agile software development methodologies (e.g. scrum)

A required in office work persona is defined as an employee who is contracted to work from or aligned to a ServiceNow-affiliated office. This persona is required to work from their assigned workplace location 100% of the work week based on the business needs of their role.
Flexible
A flexible work persona is defined as an employee who is contracted to work from or aligned to a ServiceNow-affiliated office and will work from their assigned workplace location roughly 3 days/week or less (generally around 40-60% of the work week). Flexible employees may choose to work the remaining working time from their workplace location or home. Flexible employees are required to work within their state, province, region, or country of employment.
Remote
A remote work persona is defined as an employee who performs their responsibilities exclusively outside of a ServiceNow workplace and is not contracted or aligned to a ServiceNow-affiliated office, including those whose place of work (pursuant to their terms and conditions of employment) is their home. Remote employees are required to work within their state, province, region, or country of employment.
