ABOUT THE ROLE
At Instacart, we are working to delight our customers and empower our shoppers. As an Android Engineer at Instacart you will work with our teams to build robust, well-architected native applications that simplify the complex challenge of getting our customer’s orders from the store to their door. In this role you will work on challenging scaling problems while also crafting the features that will define our industry. You will build in an open collaborative environment serving millions of requests daily.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Our team is investing heavily in building a world-class Android app. At our velocity and volume-level we need the ability to deploy new products and features faster and better. We love, contribute and use the latest and greatest open source technology. Kotlin, RxJava, (now) Coroutines, Dagger, we use it all. We created our design system (now integrated with Jetpack Compose 🚀) to accelerate our development cycles. We have been featured during Google I/O for being leaders in Kotlin adoption. Our open source contributions have been recommended in official Google documentation, and widely adopted by the community. We are active in the AndroidDev community, with employees who are part of the GDE program. Join our team and work on building some of the best Android apps in the world.
ABOUT THE JOB
- You will be part of a small team, with a large amount of ownership and autonomy for managing things directly
- You will work closely with Product Managers, other teams, and internal and external stakeholders, owning a large part of the process from problem understanding to shipping the solution
- You will ship high quality, scalable and robust solutions with a sense of urgency
- You will have the freedom to suggest and drive organization-wide initiatives
- You will have the freedom to explore solutions using the latest Android trends
- You will educate colleagues about subtleties & unique capabilities of the platform and leveraging them when building new features
- Our tech stack: We develop our native Android apps using Kotlin with RxJava and MVU (model, view, update) unidirectional state flow architecture. Our APIs on the backend are powered by GraphQL, gRPC and REST.
ABOUT YOU
- 10+ years of related engineering experience and extensive understanding of native Android app development, architecture, framework components and their respective lifecycles
- Strong expertise with Kotlin, RXJava, Dagger, and Retrofit
- Deep understanding of various architecture patterns such as MVVM, MVP, MVI
- Superior analytical skills and a strong sense of urgency and ownership in your work
- Proven customer facing application development, troubleshooting, deployment and application performance tuning experience
- Proven ability to build, launch and iterate on apps under pressure
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field is preferred
