In this Backend role, you will:

• Design, develop, and operate scalable and resilient distributed core services supporting all Tinder backend applications, running on Kubernetes or ECS
• Guide and maintain the architecture of recommendation team, which is currently supporting the core Tinder user’s swiping experience
• Collaborate with various functional teams on the expansion of our backend platform
• Influence the roadmap and product development of the Tinder App and services
• Mentor and guide junior engineers.

We're looking for:

• 8+ years of software development experience
• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science/Engineering
• Excellent understanding of data stores, distributed systems, knows when to or not to use them
• Strong knowledge on backend architecture, knows when and where to making tradeoffs
• Excellent knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, software design, and coding
• Experience in designing and building distributed backend systems handling high volumes of traffic with low latency
• Experience in handling ambiguous business requirements with excellent execution
• Passion to solve complex and challenging problems and make continuous improvements
• An advocate for good code quality and best engineering practices
• Excellent knowledge and experience with backend languages like Java, Scala, Go, Node.js, etc.

Bonus points if you have:

• Experience in design and development using NoSQL, such as DynamoDB or Cassandra
• Experience with AWS, Redis, ElasticSearch, Kafka, and Spark
• Experience with Agile development methodology and/or CI/CD
• Experience with Docker containers along with Kubernetes or ECS
• Experience with JVM performance tuning, good understanding of its low level details
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
