YOUR MISSION

As a Staff Software Engineer at MURAL on the Enterprise Data Residency team, you will help expand capabilities for users of our largest customers by developing services and features that power our cutting edge visual collaboration app. You are a technical leader with demonstrated experience guiding teams of developers to the optimal solution, working with the business to keep delivery times in mind. You know your way around Web Server technologies and Cloud Services. You are comfortable discussing the merits of Node.js and also what the next big JavaScript framework will be.

THE TEAM

The Data Residency team is a product focused team that sits within our Enterprise engineering organization. Your role on this new team is to help bring Mural to a global customer base by building features that allow them to store their data in their preferred region. Engineers on this team have high impact and high visibility and the value of their work is immediately seen in our increased customer base.

In this role you will:

  • Provide technical leadership to your engineering team, including technical direction setting, coaching, architectural mentorship, and interviewing engineering candidates
  • Guide your team to deliver new features that provide an intuitive experience
  • Be an advocate for new technologies, methods, and approaches to solving problems and achieving product goals
  • Be a core part of our technical design process by partnering with other engineering, product, and UX leads
  • Fully understand user requirements and pain points to help solve our customers’ business problems
  • Identify, study, and improve performance bottlenecks, resolve technical debt and reduce team toil
  • ~50% of your time should be spent on development activities (delivering code, fixing critical bugs, infrastructure set up, etc.)
  • Analyze challenging problems and recommend solutions (technical or otherwise)
  • Actively contribute to building a culture of shipping great products via a data-driven approach
  • Be accountable for and take ownership of your product (quallity, performance, reliability)

YOUR PROFILE

  • You have a minimum of 3 years in a technical leadership role in a fast-paced Agile product engineering team
  • You have extensive experience designing and delivering full-stack systems that are used in large scale production environments
  • You have excellent technical skills and relevant experience with Javascript development (Bonus: Typescript experience)
  • You have professional experience designing and developing APIs via REST and JSON (Bonus: written in NodeJS)
  • You have experience with modern web application development frameworks like React, Angular, Express
  • You have experience with a variety of data stores and designing suitable data models
  • You have experience planning out technical work and delivering new systems and features iteratively, with a focus on delivering value to customers quickly
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to tailor communication to the specific audience of varying technical acumen (Sr. leadership, customers, peers, etc.)
  • You have demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and recommend innovative solutions
  • You have experience mentoring, and a proven track record of helping, more junior engineers grow professionally
  • You have the ability to drive out project and organizational ambiguity, and have a strong bias toward action

Ideally you have...

  • A computer science degree
  • Experience working in a fast-growing startup environment
  • Experience working on Enterprise SaaS solutions
  • Experience with noSQL database (MongoDB, etc.)
  • Experience working with modern observability and analytics tools (DataDog, New Relic, etc.)
