About the Role
As the Vehicle Test Lead, you will work cross-functionally to own the Nuro vehicle test programs covering target development, test planning, test execution, data analysis, and presentation of results and conclusions. You will be responsible for determining the best process to grow the team, ensure test integrity, meet deadlines, manage resources, balance risk, and communicate effectively. You will be the liaison between internal teams such as Product, Software, Hardware, Operations, Safety, and with external test suppliers.
About the Work
Own the planning, development, execution, and documentation of all vehicle level testing across Nuro vehicle platforms. This Includes development and execution of test plans, data analysis, failure analysis and execution of corrective actions, and test report creation and submittal
Coordinate planning and execution of full vehicle testing activities between internal resources and teams and external OEM and Tier1 partners
Identify unique areas of vehicle hardware risk to Nuro vehicle deployments and develop targeted plans to investigate, characterize, and mitigate those risks
Grow, develop, and mentor vehicle testing organization to support all vehicle level testing activities at Nuro
Develop unique procedures, tools, and infrastructure to enable testing of autonomous vehicles
Act as liaison with internal and external regulatory teams to communicate test and compliance concepts, and ensure vehicle program test plans effectively cover all relevant regulatory requirements
Lead and support engineering test activities by applying engineering practices, principles, and various analysis tools to achieve performance targets and any standards (regulatory/industry)
Utilize reliability statistics to identify reliability trends in the field and provide a clear snapshot of risk
Develop and maintain a meaningful set of KPIs for field reliability performance
Travel to test sites and supplier labs as required
About You
8+ years of automotive test engineering experience or equivalent experience
Proven ability to drive test programs from pre-program to final approvals and deep technical understanding of the full vehicle test process from requirements development to final results submittal
Proven ability to lead, manage, grow, and foster the development of high performing engineering teams
Basic knowledge of all common vehicle subsystems and deep knowledge of the interactions between them. EV specific system knowledge (battery, charging, etc.) highly preferred
Understanding of automotive industry testing standards in theory, scope, performance targets, and tools
Effective communicator able to ensure alignment across company and partners with regards to vehicle test program high level goals, detailed inputs and outputs, and development expectations
Ability and desire to drive decisions by building consensus with a wide range of stakeholders with the ultimate goal of delivering the right product solution to achieve Nuro’s vision using a logical, data driven approach
Understanding of the US vehicle regulatory requirements and certification process
Excellent organizational and analytical skills to ensure full coverage and timely program progress given aggressive internal goals around vehicle delivery timing
Strong knowledge of vehicle operation (logic, structure, etc)
Flexibility and responsiveness to urgent requests and changing deadlines
Bonus Points
Experience with software tools such as Python, Labview, etc.
Experience testing and validating autonomous driving systems
Understanding of vehicle testing and regulatory environments for multiple regions
Experience developing testing grounds for purposes of vehicle testing and validation
