The VP, XR must span multiple disciplines in order to drive key parts of our Core Unity Strategy. This includes foundational device implementation & partner technical support, in addition to runtime companion apps, workflows, tools, and template & design frameworks. Our XR partnership work is accountable for revenue and day-one device support, as well as co-authoring industry standards and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with new devices. Runtime apps extend editor workflows to new & existing user markets, with new sensor data and partner tech. Workflows & tools accelerate developer speed and app quality. Templates & design frameworks give developers standard methodologies and proven building blocks, directly used by Unity’s internal products with XR functionality.
The XR group works with new hardware and tech, which often are subject to strict NDAs, requiring anticipation of larger initiatives, like: Runtime Apps or Authoring Tools. Our VP, XR will collaborate closely with leaders to feed in requirements and coordinate mutually beneficial projects.
In addition, this role is responsible for maintaining and improving our partner relationships, monetization strategies, and revenue streams. This is especially important as new creator economies are unlocked by the ‘Metaverse’.
What you’ll be doing
- Build and lead a best-in-class engineering group across a geographically and functionally diverse group of teams
- Drive for technological, business and architectural alignment across XR Engineering
- Disseminate Unity's Core Engineering vision throughout XR in a way that simplifies decision making at all levels and enables alignment to our values, engineering principles and product goals
- In partnership with the Core Unity Engineering leadership team, establish budgets, talent growth plans, critical metrics, OKRs and other operational elements that help drive performance
- Establish relationships and inspire leaders and teams across Foundation and Core Engineering to align technology priorities, team resourcing and product roadmaps
- Collaborate with VPs across Unity, representing XR
- Meet with external stakeholders and partners on technical alignment and commercial engagements
What we’re looking for
- A background in engineering leadership/executive roles managing multiple teams
- Extensive experience in managing large organizations and highly technical people managers
- Executive presence to hire and encourage key leadership talents within an engineering management group
- Holistic and detail-minded thinking, capable of autonomously deciding and issuing engineering directions in a fast paced environment
- Comfortable in C-suite partner management and presentations
- Able to foster distraction free execution through calm, clear and thorough leadership of teams
- A measured and positive attitude around management, direction and organizational change
- Excellent multi-functional communication skill and work ethics to collaborate with elsewhere in engineering, product, sales, and other Unity teams to drive successful releases
- People-first leadership skills

- Engineering experience from an innovative software development background, comfortable working with new concepts and unknowns
