Solace is a healthcare advocacy marketplace that connects patients and families to experts who help them understand and take charge of their personal health

About the Role

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll be a hands-on leader, expected to write code daily and build features from scratch while laying the foundation for a high-performing engineering team. You’ll join a spectacularly talented team of engineers and take ownership of mission-critical initiatives from initial design to deployment. In addition to your technical contributions, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our engineering culture, scaling the team, and mentoring future hires as we grow.

You are an experienced engineer who takes pride in your craft, thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, and relishes the challenge of building something from the ground up. You have impeccable communication skills, a high degree of autonomy, and a natural ability to mentor and inspire others. Above all, you are a Master of your Craft, eager to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

About Solace

Healthcare in the U.S. is fundamentally broken. The system is so complex that 88% of U.S. adults do not have the health literacy necessary to navigate it without help. Solace cuts through the red tape of healthcare by pairing patients with expert advocates and giving them the tools to make better decisions—and get better outcomes.

We're a Series B startup, founded in 2022 and backed by Inspired Capital, Craft Ventures, Torch Capital, Menlo Ventures, and Signalfire. Our fully remote U.S. team is lean, mission-driven, and growing quickly.

Solace isn't a place to coast. We're here to redefine healthcare—and that demands urgency, precision, and heart. If you're looking to stretch yourself, sharpen your edge, and do the best work of your life alongside a team that cares deeply, you're in the right place. We’re intense, and we like it that way.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the end-to-end development of new product features, from database models to UI components.

  • Set technical direction and architect scalable, high-quality solutions.

  • Be an active hands-on contributor, writing production-ready code daily while ensuring code quality and best practices.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and other stakeholders to drive impactful initiatives.

  • Identify, hire, and mentor top engineering talent as we scale the team.

  • Establish engineering best practices, streamline workflows, and maintain the health of our systems and codebase.

  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of execution, ownership, and continuous improvement.

  • Drive large releases to production on a continuous deployment cadence.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Experience working in a start-up environment.

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in full-stack development, with at least 1+ years in a leadership role.

  • Proven expertise in React, TypeScript, and Node.js.

  • Deep understanding of system design, scalable architectures, and backend development best practices.

  • A track record of building and shipping consumer-facing products with a high degree of ownership.

  • Strong ability to mentor engineers, fostering both technical and career growth.

  • Excellent communication skills to influence product direction and drive collaboration.

  • Extreme bias toward action and execution—you thrive in an environment where you can ship fast and iterate.

Our Tech Stack

  • TypeScript across all our applications

  • NestJS API with TypeORM

  • Postgres

  • Redis

  • React/Next.js

  • Custom UI library built on Ant Design

  • Heroku

If you’re looking for a leadership role where you can still write code every day while building a high-caliber team from the ground up, we’d love to hear from you!

This is a remote position. Applicants must be based in the United States.

Up for the Challenge?

We look forward to meeting you.
