About the Role


We are looking for an experienced business professional who is ready to take on the crucial role of building and leading the Accounting team at Lyra. You will be responsible for managing, communicating, and maturing our accounting and business operations. Beyond improving fundamental accounting functions, you will be a key strategic voice in guiding the growth and development of the business. As the accounting leader, you will need to be comfortable presenting to and communicating directly with the C-Suite and Board of Directors.


The ideal candidate will have senior-level accounting experience and comfort in building out an accounting group, along with systems, processes, and controls. This person will be a critical business partner, working closely with leaders across the business.


Currently, the Lyra offices are closed, and employees are working remotely. Upon reopening, this position will be based in Burlingame, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and vision for building and scaling the team, along with the financial and accounting infrastructure of the company as it grows 
  • Lead all accounting operations, including billing, A/R, A/P, working capital, cost accounting and revenue recognition
  • Own the financial close and reporting process, ensuring delivery of accurate and timely results to facilitate critical decision-making
  • Develop and execute a plan to migrate external accounting support in-house, including building out an internal accounting team and determining resource requirements
  • Partner closely with the VP, Finance to improve cash management and Treasury operations
  • Design, establish and maintain scalable internal systems and financial controls to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal tax and regulatory requirements and filings
  • Oversee and manage external resources relating to tax, 409A valuations, and insurance
  • Provide technical accounting expertise to support new business initiatives
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes with accurate and detailed financials
  • Leverage financial reporting function to provide business and strategic insights to the senior management team
  • Contribute to the development of the business’s ERP, expense management software, and technical financial reporting resources; familiarity with NetSuite, Salesforce, Expensify, and Carta a plus

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of related accounting experience with at least 4+ years audit/assurance experience at a Big 4 accounting firm
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field of study; CPA required
  • Experience with US GAAP, including ASC606 and other technical accounting matters, Sarbanes-Oxley, and SEC reporting; demonstrated detailed understanding of accounting methods, reporting, bookkeeping, reconciliations, and revenue recognition
  • Experience with ERP and accounting systems (knowledge of NetSuite a plus)
  • Highest standards of accuracy and precision; understand broader strategic objectives but is not afraid to dive in and get into the details; extremely well-organized and mindful of deadlines
  • Proven track record of building and managing an accounting team to scale; experience leading an accounting organization through to IPO readiness
  • Self-starter who excels in a fast-growing environment, adapting and reprioritizing, as needed; thoughtful decision-maker despite imperfect information and uncertainty
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to distill complex and/or technical financial concepts, while providing strategic viewpoints
  • History of driving continual process improvement
