Overview

At Segment, we believe companies should be able to send their data wherever they want, whenever they want, with no fuss. Unfortunately, most product managers, analysts, and marketers spend too much time searching for the data they need, while engineers are stuck integrating the tools they want to use. Segment standardizes and streamlines data infrastructure with a single platform that collects, unifies, and sends data to hundreds of business tools with the flip of a switch. That way, our customers can focus on building amazing products and personalized messages for their customers, letting us take care of the complexities of processing their customer data reliably at scale. We’re in the running to power the entire customer data ecosystem, and we need the best people to take the market.

We’re growing incredibly fast — this is the perfect opportunity to roll up your sleeves and have a positive impact at a hyper-growth company. We’re looking for someone who is excited to join a team where they can proactively identify and implement systems and process improvements to help grow and scale the business.

What you’ll do

As the Accounting Manager, you will manage the GL accounting team and lead Segment’s monthly close process. You will build out our ERP systems and design, implement, and enforce best-in-class policies and processes as we work toward public-company readiness. You will be empowered with visibility to the entire organization and will partner cross-functionally to deliver value across all areas of the core accounting function.

  • Identify resource needs and hire, train, and supervise staff and senior GL accountants
  • Own monthly close process, including workpaper review and communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee core accounting areas including cash, prepaids/fixed assets, accruals, and opex
  • Own technical accounting areas including cap software, share-based compensation, investments, and intercompany
  • Identify and implement policies and system changes to improve monthly close and operational accounting processes, with a focus on automation and scalability
  • Oversee quarterly, annual, and statutory financial statement preparation and drive financial statement audits
  • Design and implement controls over financial reporting process and related systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including FP&A, Procurement, HR, and tax to develop, maintain, and execute processes for accurate and efficient internal and external reporting
  • Special projects as needed

You’re a great fit if…

We are seeking a professional who is excited to take full ownership of our core accounting function as we scale. The right candidate will possess strong communication, project management and organizational skills. They will have experience scaling operations, systems and policies related to monthly close, audits, and reporting in a fast-paced and growing company.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA license strongly preferred
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, preferably a mix of public accounting and industry
  • Proven experience running an efficient and accurate monthly close
  • Experience managing junior team members
  • Top-notch communication, analytical and organization skills, including experience manipulating data to derive insights for senior management or executives
  • Self-starter with ability to own projects from initial inquiry to completion; driven to independently research new or complex issues and present solutions
  • Experience with NetSuite; experience developing custom NetSuite functionality strongly preferred
