About the team 

You will assist the Finance team with our entire billing cycle by reviewing contracts, creating invoices, handling billing, ensuring contract terms are being met, identifying solutions to complex issues, following up on overdue bills, and responding to customer inquiries. Additionally, you will have opportunities to help streamline department processes, contribute to the development and automation of new procedures, and gain exposure with revenue recognition. Your work will have a company-wide impact! 

 

About the role

In true startup fashion, you must be comfortable wearing multiple hats: generation of accurate invoices, charging credit cards via Stripe, processing revenue adjustments, responding to customer questions, and issuing credit memos in accordance with the relevant contract, billing cycles, and policy. The role reports to the Controller and will be the third accounting and finance hire in the company. As our company grows, the accounting and finance team will continue to expand and you'll be an integral part of enabling rapid growth and scaling our internal teams and business processes. Responsibilities

    • Review customer contracts and calculate the correct billing amounts 
    • Prepare invoices and charge credit cards via Stripe
    • Become a key point of contact with Sales and Customer Success teams about customer matters such as billing questions, ensuring new customers are set up correctly, following up on overdue invoices, responding to customer tickets regarding billing questions and providing billing data
    • Respond to customer billing questions in a timely and professional manner
    • Track, maintain and reconcile our Accounts Receivable on an ongoing basis
    • Investigate invoice issues and respond to general billing inquires
    • Recommend solutions to increase efficiency of existing processes
    • Introduction to revenue recognition and the review of revenue contracts for identifying non-standard contractual terms
    • Willingness to help and work on ad-hoc accounting and/or finance projects as necessary

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year work experience in Accounting and/or Billing and Accounts Receivable, or similar experience, preferably with a fast-moving software company or Big 4 Accounting firm
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business/Economics
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting methodology 
  • You can confidently multi-task and execute on projects, no matter the size and complexity. You should be able to operate, prioritize, execute, and make good decisions with a high level of autonomy.
  • Organized and process-driven; you can streamline workflow and create scalable processes 
  • Proficiency with software accounting packages, preferably Quickbooks
  • Solid abilities with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets
  • Experience with Stripe a big plus
  • Highly analytical and data-driven 
  • Take ownership of your projects and see them through to completion and beyond 
  • Extremely detail-oriented and comfortable managing multiple deadlines and priorities with little oversight 
  • Trustworthy and discreet with important financial information
