Who we are at Embroker

Embroker is the digital insurance company committed to transforming business insurance. With a radically simple approach, Embroker is replacing the 1970’s technology of the insurance industry, with a first-ever end-to-end digital insurance platform that provides better coverage and reduced cost; all in minutes, not hours. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in San Francisco, Embroker has raised over $150M of funding from leading fintech investors.

Radically simple > Needlessly complex

The value of this position (overview, description, motivation for creation- high level)

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for Embroker’s financial strategies, and play an important role in long-term planning for development. This leader is an entrepreneur at heart, understands the grit and “hands dirty” approach necessary to rapidly scale a startup, and someone who enjoys the work of building a company that disrupts the traditional insurance model.

You’ll partner with executive leaders to align on our internal and external financial strategies, value creation, and be a cultural exemplar of our values: Pack First, Create Magic, and All-In. You’ll bring fast-growth startup experience, preferably in technology or SAAS, and work to keep our goals front and center as a player-coach. You will actively participate in financing and strategy processes, as well as fundraising, M&A activities, and business development.

What you will own in this role

  • Guide company’s strategy with financial planning using models, reports, forecasts, and lean budgets
  • Play crucial role in the fundraising process
  • Help pave the path for growth, form new relationships, and drive measurable value
  • Prepare, manage, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to company management and company stakeholders
  • Manage key financial ratios including liquidity ratios, break-even analysis, and burn rate monitoring
  • Ensure company is meeting fiduciary and regulatory obligations and is compliant at all times
  • Define and develop corporate tax strategy
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risk exposure
  • Competitive market and industry benchmarking
  • Be a face of the company to outside investors, potential partners
  • Be a key member of the team planning and achieving Embroker’s growth strategy and tactics
  • Collaborate with company leadership to build our fun, hardworking, collaborative culture

What experience we think is the right fit

  • Degree in Accounting, Economics, or Business
  • 10+ years of work experience with progressively increasing responsibilities and 5 or more years of start-up experience working with VC-backed series A/B/C/D
  • Understanding and experience with capital markets. Experience with building & scaling M&A, strategy, and business development processes
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to scale a startup infrastructure. Experience in SAAS, Insurtech, or tech start-up preferred
  • Must have ability to be a team player and wear multiple hats when called upon - functional dexterity. Intellectually curious, resourceful, proactive self-starter who takes initiative and has a strong work ethic
  • Willingness to travel 25% of the time - post-COVID

Our Pack at Embroker lives our values

  • Pack First
We succeed and fail as one team. We always optimize for what is best for our entire organization. We communicate honestly and openly, treat each other with mutual respect, and assume positive intent in interactions.
  • Create Magic
We deliver delightful experiences at every customer touchpoint and dedicate ourselves to make each one exceptional. We build transformational world-class products by applying our full creativity to find solutions to even the hardest problems.
  • Be All-In
We make focused commitments. We are accountable to ourselves and each other to deliver on time. We move fast and attack challenges with relentless positivity. We build things that make us proud.

We believe that systemic structures and practices disproportionately disadvantage the most marginalized people in society — including people of color, people from working class backgrounds, women and LGBTQ people. We believe that these communities must be represented and included in the work we do, to make our Pack stronger, more creative, and improve the way we do business. We strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities.
