At Span, we are building hardware and software products to enable the rapid adoption of renewable energy. Our Business Operations team is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and diligent tax professional to help us navigate Span’s growth. You are a self-starter with a demonstrated history of identifying issues and problem solving. You have significant experience in corporate tax filings and are comfortable taking on new challenges. This role will start as a contract position with the potential to expand into full-time.

The Role

• Preparation and review of Span’s quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations and related financial statement disclosures
• Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns and other business related filings
• Respond to notices from local tax authorities
• Prepare tax accounts reconciliations for both direct and indirect taxes
• Set up and maintain tax calendar, and assist with tax research as needed
• Lead on tax projects such as research and development, credit computations, and surveys
• Register Span with tax authorities in new states as the team grows

About You 

Required Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced corporate tax specialist who has:

• Minimum 4-7 years of relevant tax experience
• Hold an active certified public accountant license
• BA/BS in accounting, finance, or business administration
• Strong accounting and tax knowledge with demonstrated experience in financial reporting and tax compliance
• Superior Microsoft Excel skills and experience working in Quickbooks
• Ability to expand knowledge and quickly understand and integrate business objectives with tax strategies, and effectively communicate tax requirements to other functional teams
• Must have the ability to work effectively as part of a team yet function well with independent responsibilities

• Experience working at a Big 4 company
• Experience setting up sales tax workflows
• Experience expanding business operations to new states
• Start-up experience
