The Head of Accounting will be a key leader in the Finance and Accounting organization and will own accounting, treasury, tax, and payroll operations. This role will be directly responsible for overseeing the company’s month-end financial close processes ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, as well as implementing, administering, and monitoring all policies and procedures within the Accounting function.

We're looking for someone with experience in managing teams, being detail oriented and strategically minded, having strong organization and communication skills, exhibiting resourcefulness akin to early-stage / growth companies, and being hands-on. The role will report to our VP of Finance and collaborate with several cross-functional teams within Bolt. We need a well-organized, process driven and supportive individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced, high growth environment.

What you will do at Bolt

  • Oversee the monthly financial close activities and coordinate activities and analysis with teams across the accounting and finance team. Ensure accurate, monthly, quarterly, and year-end close by preparing and approving journal entries, preparing and reviewing monthly reconciliations for all financial statements, and preparing and reviewing monthly variance analyses
  • Drive the development and implementation of strategies to improve accounting operations efficiencies, effectiveness, and scalability, including policies, processes, and system changes
  • Oversee revenue accounting close responsibilities including but not limited to: analyzing data against business drivers to identify trends / issues in revenue and expense recognition, merchant billing and collections, reconciliation of receivables, unearned revenue, contract liabilities and transactional revenue in accordance with ASC 606
  • Responsible for the development of the monthly and quarterly consolidated reporting of the Company’s US GAAP financial statements. Oversee all general ledger activities to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Manage and serve as a key contributor to all preparatory, live, and post-audit work across the entire business. Also serve as the point of contact and be responsible for maintaining relationships with our external auditors
  • Oversee and provide guidance on new accounting pronouncements to determine impact to the company, and oversee implementation, as needed
  • Oversee and manage all Equity accounting operations in partnership with Legal and Finance
  • Partner with strategic finance and FP&A teams for effective hand-offs and collaboration on financial analysis and process improvements
  • Support tax functions with schedules and information required for timely tax compliance
  • Manage the Company’s global banking operations including relationship management, investment management, wires / transfers, reporting, etc.
  • Experience with developing and overseeing all monthly payroll activities, including reporting, reconciliation, etc.

What would set you up for success

  • CPA (or equivalent) with 10+ years’ experience in accounting - including 5+ years at a Big 4 public accounting firm; multinational organization experience and Saas / FinTech industry experience strongly preferred
  • Strong operational experience including responsibility managing close and other accounting functions/processes
  • Strong understanding of FASB and US GAAP rules and regulations, including ASC 606, ASC 718, ASC 842, and ASC 350, among others
  • Familiarity experience working with accounting ERP systems, such as Netsuite, SAP, or similar platforms. Other experience with accounting software tools, such as Bill.com, Carta, Expensify, or others a plus
  • First-hand experience managing and audit process (both in industry and as part of an accounting services firm)
  • Leadership and people-management skills, track record of developing and managing staff
  • Ability and desire to build strong relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Excellent organizational skills, but comfortable with ambiguity
  • Execution focused and deadline driven, with the ability to take responsibility for delivering quality work in a timely manner
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all areas and levels of the company
  • Big picture thinker that is willing and able to dive into the details for insights and accuracy review
  • Desire and willingness to continuously grow and improve self, team, process, and systems
