Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting Lead

The Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting Lead will be an integral part of the Blend finance team and report to the Controller. We are looking for an individual who is detail oriented, possesses strong technical accounting acumen, demonstrates strong communication skills, and who thrives in a rapidly growing environment that can multitask and help develop world-class processes to lead and support Blend’s financial reporting and technical accounting function.
How you’ll contribute:
- Manage Blend’s external reporting process, including the preparation of supporting schedules and related analysis to ensure the accurate compilation and reporting of financial data in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Be the owner of financial reporting for both internal and external Blend customers or investors
- Independently research and analyze accounting issues and disclosure requirements in accordance with SEC reporting requirements and U.S. GAAP
- Monitor proposed and enacted accounting pronouncements that affect Blend and make recommendations on implementation
- Lead projects for leadership that require financial analysis and technical accounting research and draft technical accounting memos
- Lead compiling the information and documentation necessary for quarterly reviews, annual audits, income tax filings, and other regulatory filings.
- Lead Blend’s internal controls over financial reporting process, including Sarbanes Oxley implementation
- Lead technical accounting considerations around M&A related projects, diligence, and purchase price accounting
- Own stock based compensation, reviewing support for journal entry posting, in addition to any modifications and/or technical accounting related matters
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 8 years of accounting related experience
- Big 4 public accounting experience, with a CPA is preferred
- Prior experience auditing and/or working for publicly traded companies in a financial reporting role
- Strong, current understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting rules and regulations
- Advanced Microsoft Office and Google Suite products
- Experience with public company readiness initiatives and SEC reporting requirements (i.e.,S-1, S-4, 8-K, 10-Q, 10-K, XBRL)
- Experience with Netsuite, Carta and Workiva/ActiveDisclosure, a plus
- Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills, with a heightened attention to detail
- Able to manage multiple priorities, work cross-functionally, and meet deadlines
