Payroll Manager (Multiple Locations)
**Considering all remote US-based candidates**
We are looking for a Payroll Manager who will drive the payroll function in close collaboration with the Human Resources team. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Payroll Manager’s primary responsibility is to lead the payroll administration function, to ensure the implementation and maintenance of processes and controls, and to process payroll in a timely, accurately fashion and in compliance with the relevant government regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems, controls, and procedures to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, taxes, and deductions. Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures, as deemed necessary
- Work closely with the Human Resources team to ensure employee records and changes thereof (e.g., hire dates, termination dates, adjustments to salary rates, change in department or reporting lines, etc.) are implemented timely and accurately
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
- Interface with employees of all levels regarding all payroll-related matters. Provide guidance to employees according to payroll laws.
- Resolve payroll issues as they arise and implement procedures to mitigate future risks and errors
- Regularly communicate with management and Human Resources on payroll-related topics (e.g., payroll adjustments, payroll law updates)
- Recommend the development of new policies and procedures utilizing knowledge of federal, state, and local government regulations and reporting requirements
- Advise on the tax implications of certain compensation matters, such as adding employees in new states or localities, fringe benefits, tax gross-ups, etc.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions. Ensure accurate and timely reporting on compensation costs, including actual-to-budget/forecast analysis of compensation costs
- Collaborate with other members of the Finance team on General Ledger posting and payroll budgeting inquiries, to ensure accurate reporting
- Review quarterly tax filings and file amendments where necessary
- Work with external auditors on annual audits, walkthroughs, and all other information gathering
- Other payroll-related and project-based tasks as exigencies dictate
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or similar
- 5+years of payroll processing and leadership experience in a fast paced, high growth environment
- Extensive understanding of gross to net payroll calculations, compensation tax rules, federal/state wage and hour laws, payroll best practices, and other related laws and regulations
- Extensive knowledge of payroll systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred)
- Strong MS Excel skills required
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of basic accounting concepts to assist in general ledger reconciliations
- Strong relationship-building and customer service orientation when dealing with all levels of employees
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly self-motivated and an excellent team player
- Able to work independently, with keen attention to detail
