R&D Strategic Finance Partner

We’re looking for the first-ever Research & Development Strategic Finance Partner at Rippling. The role can be based in San Francisco or Bangalore, India. There is flexibility on the location for the right talent. The role will report directly to the CFO with a dotted line into the VP of Product and Engineering and other R&D leads. This is a role with high levels of executive visibility as R&D teams including Product, Engineering, Design, Infrastructure, to name a few, are the single largest investment area for the company. Responsibilities will include ownership of the product and engineering costs including all relevant cost of revenue and operating expenses. In addition to cost management, the role will include significant strategic, operational, and financial planning in regards to all of our product and engineering initiatives. There will also be ad-hoc projects working directly with Rippling executives.
What You'll Do:
Support the R&D organization in quarterly and annual strategic and financial planning discussions. This requires close coordination with key executives across Engineering, Product, Finance, Operations, and Support. These planning materials will be presented to the CEO, CFO, and COO.
Support Rippling in the development and launch of new product areas through business modeling and ad hoc analysis required to support the Product and Engineering teams.
Lead the buildout of the forecasts for major R&D cost components including hosting and serving costs related to Amazon Web Services as well as headcount by R&D team. Develop plans to manage these costs and seek out cost savings opportunities wherever possible.
Develop financial reports for various R&D activities for the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
Lead the analysis of R&D costs and partner with FP&A and Accounting to coordinate monthly close.
Drive operational efficiencies at Rippling by spearheading system implementations and owning process improvements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in quantitative field, MBA or equivalent preferred
SaaS industry experience in a high-growth startup or technology company preferred
Strong financial modeling and analysis experience with the ability to simplify complex topics
Minimum 8 years of finance experience with a focus on R&D business partnering
Relevant experience could be operating roles at startups or large tech companies, investment banking, strategy consulting, private equity, or corporate planning and FP&A
Experience with SQL, Netsuite, and managing Amazon Web Services costs is preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
