Overview

At Segment, we believe companies should be able to send their data wherever they want, whenever they want, with no fuss. Unfortunately, most product managers, analysts, and marketers spend too much time searching for the data they need, while engineers are stuck integrating the tools they want to use. Segment standardizes and streamlines data infrastructure with a single platform that collects, unifies, and sends data to hundreds of business tools with the flip of a switch. This empowers our customers to focus on building amazing products and create personalized experiences for their customers, while we take care of the complexities of processing their customer data reliably at scale. With an incredibly sticky product and minimal direct competition, we’re on track to be the driving force behind powering the entire customer data ecosystem, which brings us to you.

What You'll Do

  • Sophisticated financial modeling - build and refine driver-based revenue models, and break down complex models into components that consolidate
  • End-to-end analysis and reporting for key revenue metrics - constantly improve visibility into our top-line, iterate on forecasts and understand variance to actuals
  • Think strategically and then execute; insights that don’t result in action are fruitless. New initiatives and opportunities always come up, you will have the chance to contribute beyond traditional FP&A and be a key player in helping Segment achieve its revenue growth goals
  • Innovate - we push the boundaries of traditional finance roles. Maintain a growth mindset and be ready to embrace new technical skills and challenges
  • Help us scale from startup to enterprise - part of this is maturing our planning and forecasting processes, part is spreading finance best practices through the organization
  • Partner closely with the go-to-market functions of the business — provide clarity, ask questions, and drive confident decision-making for our teams

You’re a great fit if you are/have…

  • 3-5 years in operational FP&A, strategic finance, corporate finance, PE or investment banking at either a high-growth technology startup or well-established company
  • Elite Excel skills - your models are efficient, scalable and intuitive. You can handle complexity but strive for simplicity, and are able to build for all audiences. Best practices are second nature
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills - numbers are key, but a business is built with people. Cross-functional relationships and effective communication to non-financial audiences are critical to make an impact
  • Self-starter - you’ll need a scrappy and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Attention to detail meets high output - we need to do things quickly and we need to do them well
  • Solution-oriented - able to cut through the noise to identify the core components of a problem, and then drive toward an outcome that optimizes for business impact

Bonus points if you

  • Have experience with SaaS, modern marketing stack, data processing products

The Team

Segment’s FP&A team is growing so we can better support strategic decisions our Go-to-Market and Engineering teams are making every day. Recent examples of our impact include:

  • Revenue and Operations: Designed detailed revenue model by identifying key drivers of client acquisition, expansion and churn; used this model to structure revenue growth initiatives and support their implementation
  • Pricing: Boosted gross margins by optimizing AWS spend, re-aligning pricing strategy and launching discount control process
  • Corporate Finance: Defined high level “Today to IPO” financial plan by benchmarking recent S-1s of SaaS companies; used this model to support Series D fundraise

FP&A is a small and highly leveraged team of folks who spike in analytical thinking, making sense of financial data, and getting stuff done. You’ll have a great opportunity to help Segment maximize its full potential and strong existing momentum.
