We are looking for a smart, driven Accounting Operations Senior Manager to join our growing Accounting team. In the role of Accounting Operations Senior Manager, you will lead and manage the daily operations of the accounting team. You must be hands on and willing to take ownership. You must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to establish credibility and facilitate an effective working relationship with a wide range of company representatives. This is a high visibility role with great opportunities to make a meaningful and immediate impact.

What you'll do

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting operations team, including team activities to ensure effective communication, collaboration with other areas of the organization
  • Own aspects of the month-end close process, including reviewing journal entries, key account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Assess, streamline, and improve operational accounting policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and cost effectiveness. 
  • Collaborate with finance team members to ensure the timely and accurate analysis and reconciliation of applicable general ledger accounts
  • Direct and oversee accounting operations team, including Payroll, Procure to Pay function (AP), Treasury Accounting (Wires, checks, ACHs), Customer Success Accounting (Customer refunds), Merchant Success Accounting (Merchant invoicing and AR) and T&E with a focus on internal controls, standardizing processes, close optimization and accuracy
  • Partner with GL and Financial Reporting teams on the review of monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements and trend analysis to ensure completeness and accuracy of results, ensures account balances are fully reconciled, and manage the preparation the financial results in a timely manner
  • Liaise and participate in workflow design with other system administrators on processes, policies, systems and compliance
  • Manage monthly financial report creation and perform variance analysis to support budgetary control and financial statement accuracy and completeness
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 internal control policies and procedures, execute and document internal controls timely and accurately, and collaborate to revise and enhance internal control policies and procedures as needed. 
  • Coordinate with external auditors and ensure support and information requests are provided timely for quarterly reviews and annual financial audits
  • Partner with GL and Technical Accounting teams on the implementation of new accounting standards or accounting for non-standard transactions
  • Partner with Tax and Financial Reporting teams on monthly/Quarterly/Annual reporting including tax and regulatory reporting
  • Provide leadership to strengthen the accounting operations team with a commitment to recruiting, training and mentoring of staff

What we look for

  • CPA required, Audit experience required (Big 4 experience desired)
  • A minimum of 8+ years accounting and finance experience.
  • Recent experience as a Senior Accounting Manager or Corporate Accounting Manager of a rapidly growing startup is a plus
  • Financial systems knowledge and expertise and familiarity with financial business applications. Netsuite preferred
  • Technical experience related to GAAP and reporting including stock option accounting, loan accounting, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills, high energy, initiative and creativity - with a proven ability to manage significant initiatives across the organization, as well as develop and motivate staff
  • An orientation toward process and detail mindedness. Strong analytical and quantitative skills and superior accounting skills.
  • Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbally
  • The desire to improve broken processes and make your own job easier over time
  • Passion for Affirm and a strong interest in technology
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Excel, Word and GSuite

Location

 

We’re excited to announce that Affirm is now a remote-first company! This role can be located anywhere in the U.S. and Canada (with the exception of Quebec). Remote based employees may occasionally travel to an Affirm office for meetings or team building events. Our offices in San Francisco, New York City, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Salt Lake City will remain operational and accessible for anyone to use on a voluntary basis.
