The Finance and Strategy team is responsible for accelerating the growth of our business by identifying and implementing new opportunities and solutions as well as building the financial infrastructure and rigor to support the scale of the business.  We partner with teams across the company to improve the profitability, scalability and defensibility of our business model - delivering financial predictability, business accountability and insights to optimize decisions and resourcing. About the Role

We are looking for an experienced actuary who will work as a member of DoorDash’s Corporate Finance and Strategy team, and who will lead DoorDash’s company-wide insurance and captive management with a key focus on enterprise risk mitigation.  As part of the team, you will also be responsible for overall financial planning processes and play a critical role in leading the analytical capabilities and frameworks that will inform decisions regarding DoorDash’s investments across a range of products and functions. In this role, you’ll have the rare opportunity to help define and lead some of the most impactful initiatives we undertake as a company and directly partner with executive leadership across multiple functions.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

• Build the internal DoorDash insurance and captive mgmt function team and manage the relationships with carriers, underwriters, and brokers.  Align on product/feature/service offerings cross-functionally to enhance insurance strategy, both short and long-term.
• Leverage your domain expertise in conducting internal actuarial analysis to ensure appropriate modeling to compare and validate 3rd party analysis
• Influence the design of new insurance products based on Company needs. This role would span all lines of business and geography we are active in / plan to expand into (Auto, Umbrella, General Liability, Workers Comp, Occupational Accident, D&O, Cyber, and others)
• Apply an analytical approach to support decision making, with a focus on capital allocation decisions and company-wide planning
• Manage DoorDash’s quarterly and annual financial processes around insurance and captive areas, including partnering with stakeholders across the company
• Partner with teams across DoorDash to optimize financial planning processes, policies and the implementation of company-wide initiatives
• Serve as a key partner to the Accounting team to identify, develop and implement process changes to increase the accuracy of our financial records and efficiency of our processes
• Develop metrics to track team-specific and company-wide trends, identify efficiency and/or growth opportunities, clearly communicate recommendations, and collaborate across all levels of the organization
• Operate in a fast-paced and dynamic environment that is constantly evolving

• Experience and domain expertise in actuarial analysis and insurance spend management
• Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional team Work with the team to price these risks intelligently and creatively
• Experience building reserve models and educate/inform the executive team on actuarial techniques and projected ultimate loss ratios
• Work with VP of Finance and other executives  to establish and monitor reserves and solvency requirements for DoorDash captive
• BA/BS degree, FCAS or ACAS designation, Advanced degree in Actuarial Science preferred
• 8+ year of work experience, 5+ years of experience in Insurance Actuarial role
• Expertise in gig economy, marketplace logistics business and industry
• Outstanding communication skills and an ability to clearly explain/teach complex insurance terms and techniques
• Ability to lead a team and build a core insurance function within a growing company from scratch
• A passion for reinventing the industry – a burning desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment that is challenging the traditional way of doing business that is challenging the traditional way of doing business
