State & Local Tax Manager at Affirm

We’re looking for intelligent, driven professionals to lead our state and local tax compliance and financial reporting obligations! The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven knowledge of analytical tools, as well as interpersonal skills to work cross-functionally and drive forward recommendations. The role will report directly to the VP of Tax. We are eager to meet driven candidates who desire impact, thrive in ambiguity, and want to experience a well-funded start-up in hyper-growth!
What you'll do
- Analyze state and local tax filing obligations, including nexus
- Prepare apportionment analysis for state and local tax filings
- Prepare state and local tax filings or review state and local tax filings prepared by outside providers
- Respond to notices and lead state and local tax audits
- Prepare quarterly and annual state and local tax provision
- Propose and evaluate state and local tax planning strategies
What we look for
- 8+ years of experience
- Mix of Big 4 and in-house experience preferred
- Experience in Financial Services a plus
- Proactive leader who can seek out new opportunities, drive projects, navigate ambiguity and develop creative solutions with minimal guidance
- Proven understanding of research and analytical tools
- Ability to collaborate and influence across different teams in the organization
- Experience in producing BI reports, such as Looker and Tableau is a plus
- Strong Communication - ability to present, recommend, and influence senior leaders through data, insight and persuasion
- Personal Drive - willingness and desire to go above and beyond in uncovering and solving difficult business problems, even when it lies outside traditional boundaries
- Team Player - willingness and desire to be part of a strong team and contribute to a strong culture within and across organizations
Location
We’re excited to announce that Affirm is now a remote-first company! This role can be located anywhere in the U.S. Remote based employees may occasionally travel to an Affirm office for meetings or team building events. Our offices in San Francisco, New York City, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Salt Lake City will remain operational and accessible for anyone to use on a voluntary basis.
