WHAT WE DO

Postmates runs one of the largest e-commerce marketplaces in the US - moving millions of deliveries each month and connecting consumers, merchants, and couriers (Postmates) in real-time. Building top-notch financial intelligence atop our large-scale dataset is a serious challenge and we are looking for candidates who are ready to dive in as we continue to scale.

Postmates is seeking a Technical Accounting Director who can move fast and learn quickly to help solve technical accounting issues for emerging significant, non-routine, and unique transactions.  You will leverage your experience researching relevant accounting guidance to identify key accounting issues and to recommend accounting and disclosure requirements for complex non-routine transactions. The ideal candidate will take initiative to identify opportunities for improvement as well as design and implement those improvements. The candidate also will have excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with a broad range of people with different backgrounds and perspectives. 

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Analyze revenue contracts and/or non-routine vendor contracts to identify, research and evaluate technical accounting treatment for all significant accounting transactions, and draft technical accounting memorandums on significant and complex transactions
  • Analyze new and proposed accounting standards issued by the SEC and the FASB to determine the impact to the company and implement new accounting standards, as required
  • Provide insight on or set up, maintain and update new or existing accounting policies based on evolving industry standards and best practices, as needed
  • Own and perform internal controls related to technical accounting (e.g., review of revenue and/or non-routine vendor contracts, review of significant accounting estimate, etc.)
  • Assists with external audit activities including technical accounting work performed over new, complex transactions, new accounting standards, or changes in existing policies
  • Assist with the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements, as required
  • Support management in completing special projects as assigned and be a technical accounting resource for ad-hoc questions and initiatives  

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience in growth companies
  • Public company and/or Big 4 accounting firm experience
  • CPA, or equivalent qualification with strong U.S. GAAP technical knowledge
  • Strong understanding and relevant experience with ASC 606
  • Experience researching and documenting new accounting guidance and the accounting treatment of issues
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and time management, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding project management skills to establish and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated, able to problem solve creatively and meet expanding business needs as circumstances require
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team setting in a fast-paced work environment and with effective cross-functional management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, great team player, attention to detail, organized and thorough with the desire for continuous improvement
