As the leader of the Learning & Development team, you will manage and coach a distributed learning team and drive engaging learning experiences that help our talent do their best work. The Director of Learning and Development will assess our organizational business needs and build the roadmap to optimizing learning programs across diverse teams.

Your Responsibilities:

Drive strategy: You will partner closely with the HR team, business leaders, and employees to lead our organizational L&D strategy. You effectively translate business needs into strategic initiatives and drive successful outcomes.

Grow new leaders: Employees love working at Upwork, and we want them (and you!) to stay and grow with us. In order to do that, we need to develop relevant programs and ensure consistency where necessary. You will drive this work for us from a training perspective.

Build strong partnerships: Our leadership team values HR and looks to us for strong counsel and partnership. You'll be expected to develop strong relationships across the company, understand the business environment, and work with the HRBP team to ensure we’re crafting and deploying training efforts that address the needs of our partners while scaling for the future.

Demonstrate the impact of their programs: Collaborate with colleagues in HR, analytics, finance, and legal to convey the value of our programs and to continually iterate on initiatives for greater impact.

Continuously evolve and improve our L&D efforts: Hopefully if you’re a passionate L&D leader, continuous learning and improvement is as much in your DNA as it is in ours. Benchmark best practices and emerging trends to make recommendations on design, development, and tools. Come and work with us and we’ll grow stronger together!

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • Progressive experience in L&D or OD for 10-12 years
  • Deep knowledge of talent analytics, organizational design and development, strategic planning and change management
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, adapt quickly to shifting priorities, and work effectively under pressure with multiple deliverables. Must be able to make timely decisions.

  • Demonstrated success in leading learning experiences on performance agility, inclusive leadership, emotional intelligence, and growth mindset, etc
  • Strong track record of partnering with different areas of the business and creating meaningful and impactful training programs
  • Data-driven problem solver with the ability to switch seamlessly between critical thinking and tactical execution within a fast-paced environment
