As the Head of Learning & Development, you will help shape the learning culture and mindset at The RealReal. In close partnership and reporting to the Chief People Officer, you will be responsible for setting strategy of employee development programs for aspiring, new managers to senior leaders. You will be assessing, designing and implementing learning and development strategies and solutions. This role includes needs analysis, planning, managing the design and development cycles, driving execution and assessing impact to develop performance, leadership and team effectiveness.

What You Get To Do Every Day

  • Assess current state and high priority training requirements, especially around essentials for People Managers and Directors. Determine and execute effective content, delivery methods, timeline, and metrics.
  • Partnering with the Chief People Officer, determine other immediate, intermediate and longer-term plans for the L&D function, including onboarding, leadership development framework, professional development, diversity and inclusion learning, performance management training, learning metrics/analytics and budget requirements
  • Create the process for assigning curriculum at various levels in the organization and develop mechanisms to track training offerings and participation
  • Bring to life company-wide values and leadership framework and link to leadership development programs including executive coaching, team development, 360 leadership assessments, virtual learning, train the trainer programs, project teams for continuous learning, communities of practice, quarterly speaker series, leadership conferences, etc.
  • Play a key role in succession planning and career development for high-performing, high potential employees
  • Partner with People Business Partners and other key business leaders in diagnosing training and development needs for individual and team development
  • Provide coaching and guidance to People Business Partners and leaders related to developing talent
  • Where appropriate, identify and build relationships with external learning vendors which align to The RealReal’s vision, values and culture and provide optimal ROI
  • Determine and execute appropriate Learning Management System procedures
  • Scale the L&D function in alignment with company growth and business needs
  • Contribute to building a best in class on-boarding program/employee experience

What You Bring To The Role

  • At least 7 years’ hands-on L&D experience with the ability to lead the strategic vision of the Learning function
  • Experience in high growth, multiple site and decentralized environments with total employee populations of at least 2,000.  Proven success in start-up environments is more desirable than in large, established companies. 
  • Excellent instructional design skills, along with a robust portfolio of training tools and assessments 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of talent assessment strategies and succession planning processes
  • Strong strategic and tactical planning and project management skills
  • Able to present in a compelling and concise way to achieve buy-in from executive, managers, and employees
  • Savvy at optimizing Learning Management Systems to capture appropriate data and provide meaningful metrics
  • Skilled at leading change and ability to support others in leading change
  • Strong vendor management experience is required 
  • 360-degree process and behavioral assessment experience is a plus 
  • Results-driven and resourceful; ability to deliver in short timelines and with limited resources
  • Inspirational, energetic, organized and creative. Attracts and retains top talent.
  • Excellent and concise communicator (written and verbally); exceptional presentation skills
  • High EQ; humble, empathetic, good sense of humor
