Why are we hiring this role?

2019 has been a year of tremendous growth and validation for our Product/Market fit. Additionally, our previous People leader has taken another position within the company and as a result, we are looking to find our next Head of People Operations to help us thoughtfully grow and develop our people during our next stages of growth. The ideal candidate has experienced rapid growth startups with a nothing too big or too small attitude.

You’ll oversee all aspects of people operations: recruiting, benefits, onboarding, learning and development, career progression, retention, and compliance. Ideally, we’d like this person to be in San Francisco, New York, or Denver (where we currently have offices).

What You'll Be Doing

  • Own and deliver a best-in-class onboarding program, including guiding the experience from candidate → new hire, ensuring employees have relevant information in a timely manner, hosting for new hires’ first day, training, ensuring accurate employee records/documentation, background checks, I-9 compliance, etc.
  • Manage our internal recruiting team, ensuring best practices in hiring across the entire company
  • Act as the day-to-day point of contact for all employee questions; ensure all employees have timely and accurate information relating to people processes, policies, procedures, and benefits.
  • Ensure we have clean and up-to-date people data by maintaining employee data in BambooHR and other systems, including entering all new hires, making relevant updates for existing employees, managing the termination process, and conducting regular audits of people data.
  • Maintain utmost confidentiality in all matters relating to employee records and investigations.
  • Ensure legal compliance with applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations, and maintaining records.
  • Partner with other team members across the entire organization on special projects (examples: Open Enrollment, Diversity & Inclusion, Budgeting, Performance Management, Learning & Development and Engagement Surveys)
  • Educate leadership and the business on areas of risk and proactively solve issues that may arise as we scale.
  • Drive company-wide initiatives that increase employee satisfaction and productivity.

Who We’re Looking For

  • 4+ years of People Operations experience, preferably in a fast-growing company, with at least 2 years experience leading a team.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment law, compensation best practices, organizational planning & development, and employee relations (including CA, NY, and CO state laws).
  • Proven track record of building and improving operational processes and procedures, including demonstrable experience selecting and implementing new HR systems from scratch and for scale.
  • Broad spectrum interpersonal skills, ranging from warm/friendly communication, to the ability to mediate, negotiate, and creatively support employees at all levels.
  • Ability to manage a complex set of stakeholders and advocate change through influence and data rather than authority.
  • Comfortable rolling up your sleeves to get things done, and taking part in deeply complex strategy discussions.
  • Creative and analytical problem solving skills. Ability to analyze data, understand trends, and develop recommendations for action based on the analysis.
  • An understanding of cultural, racial, and gender unconscious biases.

Bonus If:

  • Familiarity with Canadian employment laws, recruiting, payroll, and benefits
  • Previous knowledge of SOC2 / HIPAA compliance
  • PHR / SHRM certification

Benefits

  • Competitive Pay
  • Meaningful Equity
  • Medical, Vision, Dental, Life Insurance benefits for you and your family (including One Medical membership)
  • 401k, FSA, HSA, Commuter benefits
  • $1k yearly Education & Development benefit
  • $100 monthly Health & Wellness benefit
  • Catered lunch & Unlimited snacks
  • Relocation assistance
  • Unlimited vacation (mandatory 2 week consecutive vacation once per year)
  • 12 weeks fully paid caregiver leave
