The Role: 

Grand Rounds is looking for an experienced Workday Payroll Manager to own and manage the payroll function. This position is initially virtual but eventually would be based out of our San Francisco office.

Grand Rounds is growing fast and the candidate will be expected to build and improve processes to support this growth. This role reports to the Senior Accounting Manager and requires a significant amount of interaction with senior employees across the company and with outside consultants and partners. Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage the entire payroll function for a 800+ person company with a mix of exempt and nonexempt employees located in more than 35 US states with two legal entities
  • Ensure payroll correctly reflects processing of new hires, changes in base pay, variable pay, transfers, promotions, terminations and changes in exemptions and deductions
  • Ensure time and attendance is accurately entered, submitted and approved by managers
  • Review in detail the payroll preview to identify any errors before issuing payments
  • Partner with other departments to facilitate the accurate and timely processing of hourly employees including verifying the accuracy of overtime hours, paid time off and leaves of absence
  • Partner with other departments to optimize Workday/ADP functionality and maximize opportunities for additional efficiencies through better automation and integrations
  • Partner with Accounting to reconcile all payroll accounts timely and accurately. This includes owning the calculation of the PTO liability
  • Respond to employee questions concerning their pay details and W-2s and investigate and resolve discrepanciesManage third-party vendor ADP for state tax compliance and regulatory filings
  • Setup new states and local jurisdictions as needed
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending courses, seminars, workshops to be up to date on the latest federal, state, and local employment tax laws
  • Establish networks both within the Workday community and also with other payroll professionals
  • Review and audit W-2’s to ensure accuracy
  • Accurately process stock option exercises in payroll 
  • Own the workers compensation audit
  • Assist with the annual E&Y audit and the 401K audit
  • Prepare monthly reporting of payroll costs for the CFO and FP&A team and explain variances

Requirements:

  • Must have deep knowledge and experience with Workday payroll 
  • Must have experience with ADP Smart Compliance and be familiar with the ADP/Workday integration
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude
  • BA or BS degree
  • 7+ years of payroll experience
  • Public company experience - equity experience
  • Certified Payroll Professional certification a plus
  • Human resources operations and benefits administration experience a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to effectively communicate across departments and at all levels
  • Attention to detail; ability to carefully audit payroll records to identify errors before payment is made
