The Who, What, Why and Where

At Segment, we believe companies should be able to send their data wherever they want, whenever they want, with no fuss. Unfortunately, most product managers, analysts, and marketers spend too much time searching for the data they need, while engineers are stuck integrating the tools they want to use. Segment standardizes and streamlines data infrastructure with a single platform that collects, unifies, and sends data to hundreds of business tools with the flip of a switch. That way, our customers can focus on building amazing products and personalized messages for their customers, letting us take care of the complexities of processing their customer data reliably at scale. We’re in the running to power the entire customer data ecosystem, and we need the best people to take the market.

We're looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to join our team and support our fast-growing R&D organization across Engineering, Product, Design, and Security. A successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a passion for developing and mentoring others, and is an expert in building strong relationships with leaders at all levels. We need a HR thought leader who can balance the need to be a strategic business partner and execute people programs, with a roll-up-your-sleeves ownership attitude.

Who we are:

Segment’s Talent Management team is chartered with enabling the business to maximize its most important asset, its people, by investing in processes and programs that allow us to hire and retain exceptional global talent, vividly live our values and set the foundations for global scale. During this period of new social and corporate constructs as we adapt to a new remote work environment, and during a planned growth period as we join the Twilio family, it’s critical that our people and culture remain at the core of everything we do. Our job is to make sure this happens.

In addition to HR Business Partner work, our Talent Management team includes expertise in the following areas: systems and processes, program management, internal communications, diversity, equity, and inclusion, employee experience, and social corporate responsibility. You’ll be joining a driven, fun, inclusive team that is obsessed with two things - each other and making an impact.

Who?

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience in a high speed, high growth environment. 3+ years acting as a People Partner or HRBP.
  • Collaborative, strategic HR professional who sees the big picture and gets into the details with vigor
  • Possess a genuine curiosity and can demonstrate that you like to continuously learn and grow
  • Understand the critical role that data plays in organizational health and have experience in harnessing the power of data to improve team/employee outcomes
  • Proven ability to think creatively
  • Track record of impact through program development and execution, taking ambiguous problems and implementing solutions to drive success
  • Open communicator with teammates and stakeholders, giving and receiving feedback respectfully
  • Impeccable judgment and an ability to balance the needs of the company, managers and employees
  • Enthusiastically roll sleeves up and get involved in all aspects of the role - no job too big or too small
  • Unquestioned integrity and a confident presence to effectively resolve sensitive employee issues

What?

  • Partner with business leaders and managers in R&D to provide thought leadership, becoming a trusted advisor and change agent
  • Proactively monitor, diagnose, and improve organizational health metrics as part of a broader people-strategy that you help set and execute
  • Advocate for your functional teams and represent their needs to the broader company
  • Provide consultative guidance to managers on implementation of core People Programs including onboarding, compensation planning, talent mapping, and performance reviews.
  • Coach managers appropriately manage and resolve complex HR issues (e.g., performance management, total rewards, mutual separations, conflict resolution, organizational design, culture...)
  • Champion DEI in every aspect of your job, whether it’s in a 1:1 conversation with an employee, running a team meeting, or spearheading a component of our DEI Strategy
  • Respond to manager and employee HR questions in a responsive, empathetic manner that yields trust and satisfaction.
  • Promote a culture of feedback, transparency, kindness, and accountability, reinforcing Segment’s mission and core values
